Friends in the Forest: A Naturalist-led, family hike, Saturday, August 20, 10am (Offsite at Cope Environmental Center), this ticketed event requires registration through CEC; some complimentary tickets are available through MRL.

Join Cope Environmental Center’s Emily Wickett, as she leads families through the forest to connect to the natural world. Programs take place rain or shine. Meet at Cope Environmental Center’s Prairiewood Entrance for this program (1730 Airport Road, Centerville, IN 47330). This hike is presented as part of the One State/One Story: World of Wonders initiative designed by Indiana Humanities, in partnership with the Indiana State Library and Indiana Center for the Book. One State/One Story encourages Hoosiers to read and engage deeply with a book as part of a statewide conversation tied to Indiana Humanities’ current theme.    This program will have a limit on the number of participants and will follow all current Covid protocols. Buckle up and get ready for Larry Simpson’s stories of life on the road!  Growing up in the 1950s Larry and his family lived in a trailer and moved 24 times. Larry enrolled in 15 different schools across 10 states. Larry shares about his life and lessons learned, including his love for Richmond–and the “Richmond girl” who stole his heart and became his wife! That "Richmond girl," Sandy (maiden name Berry, RHS Class of 1962) will be joining Larry for the event. Sandy is a descendant of William S. Kaufman who was the Superintendent of Construction of the Wayne County Courthouse and his very famous daughter Maude Kaufman Eggemeyer a world famous artist. This concert is coordinated by music enthusiast Joe Augustin who helps introduce cherished musicians to our local community, featuring Manón Voice! Indianapolis native Manón Voice has become a trusted voice in the arts and activism community. Manón expresses her passions through her work as a Poet, Hip-Hop Emcee, Speaker, Educator, and advocate for Social Justice.  Doors open at 6pm for mingling, music from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.  This event will have a limit on the number of participants and will follow all current Covid protocols (contact MRL for the most current procedures).
