Disciplinary Reflection in the AI Age (External)

Does the rise of AI tools change how we teach? Does it change what we teach? How, in other words, should we think about the discipline-specific skills and knowledge that we share with students in the age of AI? AI raises many practical questions about our day-to-day teaching, but it also presents an opportunity to rethink more fundamental aspects of our disciplines. This presentation argues that departments across the California community colleges would benefit from focused discussion about such questions, and that the answers will almost certainly be different for different departments. What are the core skills and concepts that each discipline needs to defend against the temptations of AI shortcuts? What new skills might we adopt? What old skills might we deemphasize? What do we want to keep, and what do we want to change? And how might targeted use of AI tools help students learn our core skills and values more effectively? Custom-Designing Chatbots for Learning (External)

Educational chatbots are everywhere, from common classrooms to Khan Academy. The results: mixed. Walking Club Challenge

Register your Walking Club for Fall 2026 here! The Walking Club Challenge is a campus-wide wellness competition designed to promote connection, movement, and fun among faculty and staff. Employees form teams of 3 to 5 members and earn points by completing group walks. Each time at least three team members take a walk of 15-minutes or more together on work days, the team earns 1 point. The team with the most points at the end of the challenge wins. Online Teaching Community of Practice

This academic year, we're offering a paid Community of Practice (CoP) on Asynchronous Teaching. This Community of Practice will bring faculty together to share ideas, learn from one another, and explore strategies that can be applied to their own courses. Inclusive Teaching with CSTP and UDL Community of Practice

Join us to participate in a 5-week faculty Inclusive Teaching with CSP and UDL institute. This is a call-out to recruit motivated faculty from across the disciplines; we'll analyze our mindsets, data, and instructional practices to help design more inclusive classrooms. This will be facilitated by IVC faculty. This instructional training brings together two complementary frameworks: Culturally Sustaining Teaching Practices and Universal Design for Learning. Walking Club Challenge

Register your Walking Club for Fall 2026 here! The Walking Club Challenge is a campus-wide wellness competition designed to promote connection, movement, and fun among faculty and staff. Employees form teams of 3 to 5 members and earn points by completing group walks. Each time at least three team members take a walk of 15-minutes or more together on work days, the team earns 1 point. The team with the most points at the end of the challenge wins. We’re excited to continue our weekly Breath practice this Fall semester! And this semester, we’re adding Mondays to give you even more opportunities to pause, recharge, and start your week feeling grounded. Join us for our weekly Breath Workshops with Dr. Parisa Soltani, EOPS/CARE/CalWORKs Counselor and certified yoga & breathwork facilitator. These 30-minute sessions provide a calming space to recharge through guided breathing and a sound bowl experience. Available August 1, 2026–May 14, 2027 The IVC OER Accessibility Course is a fully remote, asynchronous, and self-directed introduction to accessibility practices for faculty who use, adapt, or create Open Educational Resources. Faculty may join at any time during the academic year and complete the course at their own pace. Topics include accessible links, images, headings, lists, tables, color contrast, captions, transcripts, screen-reader considerations, accessibility checkers, and Universal Design for Learning. This optional course provides OER-specific foundational training and does not replace IVC’s official IT accessibility guidance, review, training, or support. Available August 1, 2026–May 14, 2027 The IVC OER LibreTexts Course is a fully remote, asynchronous, and self-directed introduction to LibreTexts, a nonprofit open-education platform for finding, remixing, creating, editing, and organizing openly licensed course materials. Faculty may join at any time during the academic year and complete the course at their own pace. The course introduces account setup, platform navigation, open licensing, existing LibreTexts resources, and the creation of customized, IVC-localized OER and textbooks. This optional course focuses on the LibreTexts publishing platform. ADAPT training will be offered separately at a later date. Walking Club Challenge

Register your Walking Club for Fall 2026 here! The Walking Club Challenge is a campus-wide wellness competition designed to promote connection, movement, and fun among faculty and staff. Employees form teams of 3 to 5 members and earn points by completing group walks. Each time at least three team members take a walk of 15-minutes or more together on work days, the team earns 1 point. The team with the most points at the end of the challenge wins. Simple, social, and great for wellness! Steps: Select a Team Leader and register your walking clubs of 3 to 5 IVC employees using this form. Once you are registered, the designated Team Leader will be sent a spreadsheet to record the number of 15-minute (or more) walks your team takes during the semester.
