AI Taskforce Book Club

This spring, the AI Taskforce will facilitate a book club to discuss The Opposite of Cheating: Teaching for Integrity in the Age of AI by Tricia Bertram Galland and David A. Rettinger. About the book: In these days of an ever-expanding internet, generative AI, and term paper mills, students may find it too easy and tempting to cheat, and teachers may think they can’t keep up. Rettinger offer in this timely book, is a new approach—one that works with the realities of the twenty-first century, not just to protect academic integrity but also to maximize opportunities for students to learn. The Opposite of Cheating presents a positive, forward-looking, research-backed vision for what classroom integrity can look like in the GenAI era, both in cyberspace and on campus. Accordingly, the book outlines workable measures teachers can use to better understand why students cheat and to prevent cheating while aiming to enhance learning and integrity. Presenters will share experiences, practical strategies, and examples of campus efforts that have helped create more affirming and equitable spaces. We will also discuss how this work builds stronger foundations for solidarity, preparing us to support other marginalized groups who face targeting. Decolonizing AI In Education: Equity Issues with AI and Exploring How to Address Them in Our Classrooms (External)

In review of the burgeoning research on artificial intelligence (AI), the vast majority of the existing publications focus on either bias or education but now bridge the two topics of interest. Our session attempts to build an andragogical bridge between the two topics by not only acknowledging the bias in AI but also how this bias may ultimately affect the educational outcomes of students in higher education. In the Age of AI where the digital divide often disadvantages the most marginalized students, we, as educators, should avoid becoming perpetrators in the digital preproduction of inequality. In this session, our endeavor to decolonize AI in education is two-fold: 1) introduce participants to the equity issues with AI in education and 2) explore the ways in which we might be able to address those issues in our classrooms. Book Club

The Spring 2026 book club will read and discuss Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. About the book: The average human lifespan is absurdly, insultingly brief. Assuming you live to be eighty, you have just over four thousand weeks. Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon. Still, we rarely make the connection between our daily struggles with time and the ultimate time management problem: the challenge of how best to use our four thousand weeks. Drawing on the insights of both ancient and contemporary philosophers, psychologists, and spiritual… Presented by: Ace Caguioa and Summer Serpas.

What’s needed, and what Tricia Bertram Gallant and David A.

What’s needed, and what Tricia Bertram Gallant and David A.
