The Mobile Market is a program supported by the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB), which provides fresh seasonal fruits, vegetables, and other food items at ZERO COST for distribution to the USG campus and community. All you need to do is stop by the ground floor of the BSE in room G318, bring your reusable bags, and pick up some food. Are you interested in volunteering? We welcome all interested volunteers to help support the market operations each month. Please sign up here for future dates to lend a hand with our food distribution efforts.

Chokhor Duchen, one of the four great holy days of the Tibetan calendar. It is also known as the Festival of Turning the Wheel of Dharma, Chokhor Duchen commemorates the anniversary upon which Shakyamuni Buddha first began teaching the Dharma. For seven weeks after his enlightenment, the Buddha did not teach. After this period, Indra and Brahma offered a dharmachakra and a conch shell and requested Shakyamuni to teach. Accepting, Buddha Shakyamuni turned the Wheel of Dharma for the first time at Sarnath by teaching on the Four Noble Truths.

Celebrated on the full moon day of the third lunar month, Magha Puja is celebrated in most places in South Asia. It is a Buddhist holiday with many activities to participate in, such as, lighting oil lamps, gift exchanges, and going to the temples to pray and meditate. This holiday is the second most important day in Buddhist history. Budda and his 1,200 disciples met on this day and ordained them as monks. As many celebrate, it is important to go to temples and eat savory sweet foods throughout the day. People come together and meditate on the Three Jewels of Buddhism.

Days of Commemoration
Purim is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the deliverance of Persian Jews from the plot of Haman to exterminate them, as recorded in the biblical Book of Esther. Purim is marked by a carnival atmosphere, with masquerades, farcical plays, and the giving of gifts, especially charitable gifts. In the synagogue, the chief observance is the reading of the Megillah (scroll) of Esther, but here, also, unusual levity prevails. For example, at every mention of Haman, the congregation rattles "gregers" (noisemakers) to drown out the sound of his name.

The live versions of the courses meet online on Tuesdays from 6pm to 8:30pm Eastern Standard Time for 8 consecutive weeks (Oct-Nov and Jan-Feb). Each evening session is filled with information and activities that will help you write your farm business plan. The Farm Business Planning course is designed to help you create a written plan to start or expand your farm business. Graduates of the (Fall) course can apply to join our Incubator Farm Program.
