Days of Commemoration Sukkot begins a seven-day festival in commemoration of the Jewish people’s 40 years of wandering in the desert as well as thanksgiving for the fall harvest. The ancient Hebrews celebrated Sukkot as a festival of thanksgiving and brought sacrifices to the Temple in Jerusalem. Jews still observe the holiday by making joyous parades in synagogues and carrying lulabs (palm branches), etrogs (citrons), and myrtle and willow branches. Backyard Food Scraps Compost Bin Sale

Food Scraps Programs Montgomery County residents can buy a discounted compost bin to start composting fruit and vegetable scraps right at home! Over the last few years with the help of resident volunteers, Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection has evaluated two types of compost bins for food scraps composting to ensure that the bins successfully deter rodents and aid in the decomposition of food scraps. The vast majority of participants have been able to compost food scraps in their backyard without experiencing any issues by using these bins and following our recommendations. This year, DEP is coordinating a discounted sale of the two successfully evaluated bins:Earth Machine – 35% off retail, HotFrog Dual Chamber Tumbler – 17% off retail, This sale is intended to give residents an opportunity to purchase high-quality compost bins at a reduced cost.
