Art Exhibition: "Spiraling Upwards: Encaustic Mixed Media by Kathleen Kvern"
Student Life
“Spiraling Upwards: Encaustic Mixed Media by Kathleen Kvern" is a selection of hand-crafted encaustic mixed media that uses cardboard and gold leaf to turn discarded materials into layered, luminous compositions that celebrate optimism and possibility. What is encaustic mixed media? According to Museum of Encaustic Art, it is art technique that uses more than one material, including paper or photography, with a fusing process, and always contains one or more additional materials. Encaustic painting is an ancient painting technique which combines beeswax, Damar resin and then either oil paint or natural powdered pigments to give it color. Kathleen Kvern is an abstract painter based in Minneapolis, MN with a studio at the Grain Belt Bottling House in Northeast Minneapolis. She works primarily in encaustic and mixed media and her work has been juried into exhibitions at the Nicolet College Art Gallery, Northfield Art Gallery, Artistry at the Bloomington Center for the Arts, and at the Minnesota State Fair Fine…
