Parks & Recreation Many Buncombe County Parks were impacted by Hurricane Helene.  While we are working diligently reopen parks as quickly as we can, some parks continue to remain closed. Please see the list below for which parks are open and which parks continue to be closed for safety reasons. Public Health Mobile Team: Harm Reduction/SSP Program @ BCHHS Building

Mobile Team The Mobile Team is partnering with the Harm Reduction/SSP Program. Come by for testing, vaccines, or to pick up the life-saving medication, naloxone, used to reverse an opioid overdose. HCCBG Advisory Committee

Age Friendly The Home and Community Care Block Grant Advisory Committee meets monthly.  The Home and Community Care Block Grant Advisory Committee makes grant recommendations to the Board of Commissioners regarding allocations of Home and Community Care Block Grant funding and County Aging Services funding yearly.  During the other months, the Committee reviews provider spending, annual reporting, and discusses gaps within the aging services network.  This is an open meeting and anyone is welcome to listen in. Buncombe County Parks Update - Open and Closed Parks

Parks & Recreation Many Buncombe County Parks were impacted by Hurricane Helene.  While we are working diligently reopen parks as quickly as we can, some parks continue to remain closed. Please see the list below for which parks are open and which parks continue to be closed for safety reasons. OPEN Parks:  Lake Julian Park (please note, some disc golf holes remain closed), Hominy Valley Park, Collier Cove Nature Preserve, North Buncombe Fields, Cane Creek Playground, Buncombe County Sports Park, Corcoran Paige River Park, Bent Creek River Park, Ledges Whitewater Park, and Hominy Creek River Park.  If people choose to recreate on the river, we strongly encourage them to be aware of changes on streambanks and in the riverbed and the potential for unknown debris from Helene. CLOSED Parks:  Charles D. Owen Park, Karpen Soccer Field, Alexander River Park, Walnut Island River Park, and Glen Bridge River Park*. *Note, if the gate is open at Glen Bridge River Park, it may be used.  For safety reasons, we ask the public not to enter… Email: parks@buncombecounty.org. Age Friendly Senior Opportunity Center offers a variety of activities that include exercise programs, trivia games, arts and crafts, daily crossword puzzles, afternoon movies, monthly guest speakers and much more.  FREE. Senior Dining and Wellness/Grove Street Community Center

Age Friendly The Council on Aging Senior Dining and Wellness Program offers eligible adults the opportunity to enjoy daily nutritious, hot lunches from Moose Cafe along with weekly fresh local produce in a fun, safe, and social setting.  More than a meal, this program connects participants to health and wellness programming, opportunities for socialization, as well as community resources.  Call 828-277-8288 to register.  The Senior Dining and Wellness Program is a program funded through grants received by Council on Aging of Buncombe County.  While there is no charge to participate, individuals are given the opportunity to expand services through consumer contributions.
