Hominy Creek Comfort Makers- Knit/Crochet/Sew Makers Group

Enka-Candler Library Please join us as we launch our maker group! If you can sew on a machine, hand sew, crochet or knit, stuff a pillow or iron we can use your help. Sewers/knitters/menders.. all are welcome to join us on Friday mornings. We will be working on projects that provide comfort items to anyone struggling. Comfort items may include but are not limited to quilts, crocheted or knitted blankets, Hospice pillows, chemo port pillows and beanies/hats. You're also more than welcome to join us, hang out, and work on your own project if you'd like. The first meeting will be Friday, July 23. To get us started there will be a few Hospice pillow kits, cut and ready to sew, stuff, and complete. If this is a cause that interests you, please come prepared with your supplies/tools including sewing machine, fabric, yarn and any other items you might need. Pack Memorial Library The Friends of Pack Library will be having their BIG SUMMER book sale for two weekends in July. The sale will take place in the auditorium on the lower level of the library and will include coffee table, antique and collectable books, music CD, DVDs and artwork for sale at great prices. Everything in Bookends Used Book store on the library’s main level, which features popular fiction and non-fiction for adults and children, will be half price during the sale. The dates for the sale are: Friday, July 16 from 11am to 5pm , Saturday, July 17 from 11am to 4pm , Friday, July 23 from 11am to 5pm , Saturday, July 24 from 11am to 4pm On Friday, July 23 all items in the auditorium sale will be half-price. Make Your Monster for the Lake Monster Parade

Black Mountain Library Get your costume ready for the Lake Monster Parade at Lake Tomahawk! (The parade is Saturday, July 31 at 11:00 am on the shores of Lake Tomahawk.) The Saturday before the parade, July 24, we'll be hosting a monster-making workshop day outdoors on the library lawn. We'll have cold drinks, craft supplies, and volunteers to help make your monster! Brothers and Sisters Like These- Veterans Story Telling at Lake Julian

Enka-Candler Library Join us the last Wednesday evening of the month throughout the summer at Lake Julian picnic shelter #1 to hear stories from the Veterans writing group, Brothers & Sisters Like These. This program welcomes everyone and is for combat veterans, their friends, and family to listen to and share stories through the arts and creative writing to help heal from wartime experiences. Arrive a little early, between 5-6 to socialize, eat some good food, and learn what resources are available in Buncombe County for veterans and their families. Unearth simple collage techniques and ways to view the world in this two hour exploration of paper, paint, and play with featured artist Evelyn Dufner.  You will enjoy examining what inspires from the smallest of things to the big picture at the Leicester Library. WNCHA Executive Director Anne Chesky Smith will discuss her new book Murder at Asheville’s Battery Park Hotel: The Search for Helen Clevenger’s Killer, out July 26. In 1936, Helen Clevenger’s uncle discovered her bloodied body crumpled on the floor of her small room in Asheville’s grand Battery Park Hotel. She had been shot through the chest. Buncombe County sheriff Laurence Brown, up for reelection, desperately searched for the white teenager’s killer as the public clamored for answers. Even after Sheriff Brown secured a confession from a young Black man, many southerners feared that the crime had not been solved.
