SHELL follows a Slug and a Snail who journey to find a new shell when the Snail’s shell is broken in a storm. Composed of different vignettes, audiences will practice phonetics, play with causality and object permanence against the backdrop of a story performed in Spanish and English, and touches on migration and community / SHELL sigue a una babosa y un caracol que viajan para encontrar un nuevo caparazón cuando el caparazón del caracol se rompe en una tormenta. The vision for this communal effort is to have as many people as possible read, discuss, meditate, and ultimately have the shared experience of collectively reading the same book this spring.
Our first One Book, One Buncombe selection has been The Violin Conspiracy by North Carolina-based author Brendan Slocumb. Hundreds of people all across the county have been reading this thought provoking novel in March and April, and a wide selection of programs have been well attended.
One Book, One Buncombe 2024 will culminate with a free community event featuring author Brendan Slocumb on Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. This event will take place at Ferguson Auditorium at AB Tech. 19 Tech Drive, Asheville, 28801. Admission is free and everyone is welcome! No advance registration is required to attend this program. Seating will be first come, first served.

What could the songs of legendary singer-songwriter Dolly Parton teach us about writing, craft, and perspectives in poetry? In this in-person workshop, poet Dustin Brookshire guides participants through exploring the discography and cultural impact of Dolly Parton. A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls
Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls.
You Will Learn To:
· view falls as controllable
· set goals for increasing activity
· make changes to reduce fall risks at home
· exercise to increase strength and balance
Who Should Attend?
· anyone concerned about falls
· anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength
· anyone who has fallen in the past
· anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns
Classes are held once a week for 8 weeks for 2 hours each. Participants are expected to attend the entire series. Registration is required and will be limited.

This Art of Living course series offers skills and tools for cultivating well-being by strengthening awareness of body, mind and emotions.

Despite having one less leg, this ten year old "tripod" Great Pyrenees mix is excited about life, always eager for a run or swim and approaches everything with a big smile. Gracie's physical difference does not stop her mission to spread love and happiness to everyone she meets. Her empathy and willingness to listen, make her the perfect friend for anyone in need of comfort or support.
Join Gracie and her parent, Lisa, for an hour at the library where you can take turns reading, petting, or saying hello! No registration is required for this program, but we will ask you to sign-in so everyone gets to spend time with Gracie. Gracie is child friendly & parents must stay with children.

A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls
Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls.
You Will Learn To:
· view falls as controllable
· set goals for increasing activity
· make changes to reduce fall risks at home
· exercise to increase strength and balance
Who Should Attend?
· anyone concerned about falls
· anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength
· anyone who has fallen in the past
· anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns
Classes are held once a week for 8 weeks for 2 hours each. Participants are expected to attend the entire series. Registration is required and will be limited.
This class will be facilitated by Heather Bauer, master trainer. The series is sponsored by the Land of Sky Area Agency on Aging.

Mindfulness is paying attention in the present moment, on purpose, without judgment, as if our life depends on it.
This Art of Living course series offers skills and tools for cultivating well-being by strengthening awareness of body, mind and emotions.
Participants should dress comfortably and bring a towel or yoga mat. A limited number of yoga mats are available for those that need one.

If you can sew on a machine, hand sew, crochet or knit, stuff a pillow or iron come join our makers group! Sewers, knitters, and menders are welcome to join us.
We will be working on projects that provide comfort items to anyone struggling. Comfort items may include but are not limited to quilts, crocheted or knitted blankets, Hospice pillows, chemo port pillows and beanies/hats. To get us started there will be a few Hospice pillow kits, cut and ready to sew, stuff, and complete.
Come prepared with your supplies & tools including sewing machine, fabric, yarn and any other items you might need. The library will have some materials on hand as well! You're also more than welcome to join us, hang out, and work on your own project if you'd like.
The group meets in the library community room. No registration required.

A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls
Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls.
You Will Learn To:
· view falls as controllable
· set goals for increasing activity
· make changes to reduce fall risks at home
· exercise to increase strength and balance
Who Should Attend?
· anyone concerned about falls
· anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength
· anyone who has fallen in the past
· anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns
Classes are held once a week for 8 weeks for 2 hours each. Participants are expected to attend the entire series. Registration is required and will be limited.
This class will be facilitated by Heather Bauer, master trainer. The series is sponsored by the Land of Sky Area Agency on Aging.

This Art of Living course series offers skills and tools for cultivating well-being by strengthening awareness of body, mind and emotions.
Participants should dress comfortably and bring a towel or yoga mat. A limited number of yoga mats are available for those that need one.

In celebration of synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog's 90th birthday on May 23rd, Pack Library is proud to welcome Michelle Moog-Koussa, executive director of the Bob Moog Foundation and the Moogseum, for a presentation about the inventor's life. The presentation will include a historical exploration of Moog's life and career through archival photos from the Bob Moog Foundation Archives interwoven with readings from the biography “Switched On: Bob Moog and the Synthesizer Revolution” by Albert Glinsky. Bob Moog invented the Moog synthesizer in 1964, which revolutionized the face of music. He was a longtime Asheville resident, moving to the area in 1978.

The West Asheville History Project is Buncombe County Public Libraries’ longest-running community-driven archives project. Learn more and share your story at this evening event held in partnership with the West Asheville History Museum!
At the West Asheville Library, from 5–6pm, Clifford W. Cotton II and Robert M. Randolph will share tales of their family history in West Asheville. Attendees are encouraged to share stories of their own--whether of generations past, or of personal experiences of a changing West Asheville.
After the library event, participants are invited to join local historian and curator Conda Painter at the West Asheville History Museum (727 Haywood Road) to explore captivating photos and artifacts, such as the iconic 1930s May’s Market delivery bike and original trolley car bell. From 6:30–7:45pm, Conda will lead a historic walking tour focusing on the captivating 700 block and the remarkable recent discovery of West Asheville’s hidden 1800s cemetery.
