The Leicester Library Giving Garden aims to connect and strengthen our community through growing and sharing food. The food grown in the Leicester Giving Garden is given to the community for free, so the work you do in the garden directly supports your neighbors in Leicester.
These workdays are an opportunity to volunteer in the garden, learn more about how to get involved, and about gardening in general. Open to all regardless of experience!

David Hutt holds advanced degrees from Northwestern University and Columbia Teachers College. Through a deeply student-centered approach to teaching, he has helped dozens of high-school students gain perfect scores on the science portion of college-entry tests and is currently teaching “The Astonishment of Quantum Physics” to homeschoolers.
Additionally, David is sparking an online study group encouraging deep humility- its tongue-in-cheek name is The Greatest Humility Club in The Known Universe.

This documentary examines the diversity of ability that exists in disabilities but at the same time lets viewers see how disabled people live and are able to accomplish all the things they want to do. Do you have art and craft supplies you never use but can't bear to throw away? Are you looking for some supplies to start a new hobby? Join us for our summer Arts and Crafts Supply Swap to share the collective crafting wealth of our community.
To participate: donate any crafting supplies in good condition at the library between Saturday July 20 and Friday July 26. This can include items such as: scrapbook supplies, yarn, paint, art paper, embroidery kits, craft kits, markers, beads, cloth, jewelry making supplies, etc.
Please no heavy equipment, broken, dried out, or messy items.
Please also bag any small items such as beads, buttons, etc.
The swap will be open to all on July 27 from 3-5 pm in the community room.
Any supplies not taken by swappers will be used by the library for programs, donated to charity, or recycled.

Come make some music while you enjoy the mountain views at the Leicester Library.
Bring your guitar, banjo, fiddle, drum, and/or any other instrument (flute, voice, ukulele, tamborine, etc ) for a music jam in the Friends of the Leicester Library Giving Garden. This is a casual, unstructured event to give new and seasoned musicians an opportunity to meet up and play in a lovely outdoor setting.
You may also want to bring a chair to sit on, a water bottle, and a friend or family members, etc.
No alcohol please. The music jams will happen every other Tuesday through the summer.

Upcycled Cinderella: in this imaginative production, Bright Star’s actors bring to life the story of Cinderella in a way that will surprise and delight audiences. The wacky duo Dustup and Binny “accidentally” stumble upon an audience and decide to put on a play with what they have before them. Using household items, recycled objects and physical comedy, our performers create hilarious characters, inventive settings and lively scenes. Packed with character education lessons, Upcycled Cinderella will activate the imagination and encourage young audiences to use teamwork, friendship and creativity in their every day lives. Join Buncombe County Special Collections for a traditional mountain dancing lesson suited for true beginners.
During the month of August there will be three opportunities at Pack Memorial Library to learn the basics of this traditional Appalachian style of dance from one of the best instructors in the area, Linda Block, of the Green Grass Cloggers. Classes are free to attend, but registration is required. Adults and families are welcome, (recommended for ages 10 and up, with parent present). Make sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes that can slide but stay on your feet! Open toed shoes are not recommended. Water bottles with lids are welcome. Come make some music while you enjoy the mountain views at the Leicester Library.
Bring your guitar, banjo, fiddle, drum, and/or any other instrument (flute, voice, ukulele, tamborine, etc ) for a music jam in the Friends of the Leicester Library Giving Garden. This is a casual, unstructured event to give new and seasoned musicians an opportunity to meet up and play in a lovely outdoor setting.

Puptart is a tail wagging robot dog who sits and stays, pants when listening, and responds to someone talking to and petting it. It will not jump up or run away, plus it's fur free, so no sneezes and runny noses coming your way!

Join us for this educational and fun guided drum session. This class is super fun and no drumming experience is needed. In this hour long session we will establish the foundations of rhythm and experiment with various concepts from there.
Registration is required to use one of the provided djembes. Registration will be limited to 12 people to ensure we have enough drums for everyone. Feel free to bring your own drum or percussion instrument. If you are bringing your own drum you do not need to register.
This class is best suited for adults and kids 10 and up.
