Books to Action Book Club: Focus on Elections

Our next Books to Action Book Club will be focused on elections and voting. We hope that you will join us again.  The Book: "Thank you for voting: the maddening, enlightening, inspiring truth about voting in America" by Erin Geiger Smith. Meet Gracie, a certified therapy dog whose spirit and affectionate personality are sure to win your heart. Despite having one less leg, this ten year old "tripod" Great Pyrenees mix is excited about life, always eager for a run or swim and approaches everything with a big smile. Gracie's physical difference does not stop her mission to spread love and happiness to everyone she meets. Her empathy and willingness to listen, make her the perfect friend for anyone in need of comfort or support. Join Gracie and her parent, Lisa, for an hour at the library where you can take turns reading, petting, or saying hello! Our VOICE bilingual Information Sessions and Assistance

Join us for an Our VOICE Bilingual Information Session. This session will be provided to inform Spanish & English speaking community members about sexual assault and human trafficking resources that Our Voice provides. Do you have questions about services? Need assistance? All are welcome and encouraged to attend. The Asheville Dulcimer Orchestra wit Guitar Duo Mark & Beverly Davis

The Enka-Candler Library welcomes The Asheville Dulcimer Orchestra and Guitar Duo, Mark and Beverly Davis in our community room for a performance on Saturday, April 20 at 3 PM. Hominy Creek Comfort Makers @ Enka Candler Library

If you can sew on a machine, hand sew, crochet or knit, stuff a pillow or iron come join our makers group! Sewers, knitters, and menders are welcome to join us. We will be working on projects that provide comfort items to anyone struggling. Comfort items may include but are not limited to quilts, crocheted or knitted blankets, Hospice pillows, chemo port pillows and beanies/hats. To get us started there will be a few Hospice pillow kits, cut and ready to sew, stuff, and complete. One Book, One Buncombe: Live jazz Hour featuring Jazz Violinist Christian Howes

The Michael Jefry Stevens Quartet performs a selection of original music by Michael as well as standard jazz repertoire from the Great American Songbook.  The quartet will feature internationally acclaimed violinist Christian Howes as well as California transplant bassist Bryan McConnell and local veteran drummer Rick Dilling. Christian Howes is considered one of the top jazz violinists of his generation, and is regularly listed in Downbeat’s jazz poll as one of the most prominent violinists in the world.  The quartet has been performing together for the past five years, and recently released their debut CD “Precipice” on ARC Recording label.  This program is free and will take place in the Enka-Candler Library community room. One Book, One Buncombe Author Event with Brendan Slocumb

Buncombe County Public Library started our inaugural countywide book club called One Book, One Buncombe this spring. The vision for this communal effort is to have as many people as possible read, discuss, meditate, and ultimately have the shared experience of collectively reading the same book this spring. Our first One Book, One Buncombe selection has been The Violin Conspiracy by North Carolina-based author Brendan Slocumb. Hundreds of people all across the county have been reading this thought provoking novel in March and April, and a wide selection of programs have been well attended. Adult Mental Health Series with Vaya Health

Join Vaya Health's Geriatric and Adult Mental Health Specialty team for a series of classes at Enka-Candler Library. All classes will take place once a month on Tuesdays at 10 AM or 1 PM. Hominy Creek Comfort Makers @ Enka Candler Library

If you can sew on a machine, hand sew, crochet or knit, stuff a pillow or iron come join our makers group! Sewers, knitters, and menders are welcome to join us. Scrapbook Office Hours with Artist Eric William Carroll

Join professional photographer & amateur archivist Eric William Carroll for his Scrapbook Office Hours! Eric will have basic scrapbooking supplies on-hand, as well as his instructions for a “screenshot scrapbook” which anyone with a smartphone or tablet can partake in. Hominy Creek Comfort Makers @ Enka Candler Library

If you can sew on a machine, hand sew, crochet or knit, stuff a pillow or iron come join our makers group! Sewers, knitters, and menders are welcome to join us. We will be working on projects that provide comfort items to anyone struggling. Comfort items may include but are not limited to quilts, crocheted or knitted blankets, Hospice pillows, chemo port pillows and beanies/hats. To get us started there will be a few Hospice pillow kits, cut and ready to sew, stuff, and complete. Come prepared with your supplies & tools including sewing machine, fabric, yarn and any other items you might need. The library will have some materials on hand as well!
