One Book, One Buncombe Author Event with Brendan Slocumb

Buncombe County Public Library started our inaugural countywide book club called One Book, One Buncombe this spring. The vision for this communal effort is to have as many people as possible read, discuss, meditate, and ultimately have the shared experience of collectively reading the same book this spring. Our first One Book, One Buncombe selection has been The Violin Conspiracy by North Carolina-based author Brendan Slocumb. Hundreds of people all across the county have been reading this thought provoking novel in March and April, and a wide selection of programs have been well attended. One Book, One Buncombe 2024 will culminate with a free community event featuring author Brendan Slocumb on Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. This event will take place at Ferguson Auditorium at AB Tech. 19 Tech Drive, Asheville, 28801. A Matter of Balance: 8 Week Series

A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls. You Will Learn To: · view falls as controllable · set goals for increasing activity · make changes to reduce fall risks at home · exercise to increase strength and balance Who Should Attend? · anyone concerned about falls · anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength · anyone who has fallen in the past · anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns Classes are held once a week for 8 weeks for 2 hours each. Land of the Sky 101 Book Club

Land of the Sky 101 is a community learning circle for those who are interested in the history of Asheville, Buncombe County and Western North Carolina. A four-part series of readings and discussions is modeled after the themes of the exhibit “An Incomplete History of Buncombe County” mounted in the BCSC reading room. Sessions will be held the first Saturday of March, May, August, and November during which participants will explore the history of our region. Read  Readers can choose from two selections; one light read like a fictional novel, or groups of essays and poems, and one rigorous non-fiction read written by an expert on the subject. Upbeat: An Intro to Drumming & Rhythm

In celebration of synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog's 90th birthday on May 23rd, Pack Library is proud to welcome Michelle Moog-Koussa, executive director of the Bob Moog Foundation and the Moogseum, for a presentation about the inventor's life. The presentation will include a historical exploration of Moog's life and career through archival photos from the Bob Moog Foundation Archives interwoven with readings from the biography “Switched On: Bob Moog and the Synthesizer Revolution” by Albert Glinsky. Bob Moog invented the Moog synthesizer in 1964, which revolutionized the face of music. He was a longtime Asheville resident, moving to the area in 1978. Then, plan to stick around for... A Matter of Balance: 8 Week Series

A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls. You Will Learn To: · view falls as controllable · set goals for increasing activity · make changes to reduce fall risks at home · exercise to increase strength and balance Who Should Attend? · anyone concerned about falls · anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength · anyone who has fallen in the past · anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns Classes are held once a week for 8 weeks for 2 hours each.
