Pānui Tahi (Shared Reading)
Te Awe Library
Not your average book group! Running monthly on the third Tuesday of the month, our Pānui Tahi (Shared Reading) sessions are small, friendly reading sessions where we experience the fun of ‘Shared Reading’ and enjoy short stories and poetry read aloud over a cuppa. Everything provided. Everyone welcome!
‘Shared Reading’ is a movement that aims to break down barriers between people and literature, create connections and build community. Find out more about these groups and this movement on The Reading Revolution's website.
There are pauses for kōrero / discussion about the deeper meanings in the text, and what the group thinks about it, as well as pauses for kawhi and tī / coffee and tea, and pīhikete / biscuits!
Shared reading isn’t about what you might already know about literature, nor is it ‘literary criticism.’
It’s people’s personal response to the literature – how their lives and experiences meet and move with the work that’s read aloud.
How it works: A group of 8-10 participants, one facilitator…

Author Kōrero - Climate Fiction and Non-Fiction: Springing to Life?
Newtown Library

Our esteemed panel features:

Tim Jones was born in England, grew up in Southland and lives in Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington. He was awarded the NZSA Peter & Dianne Beatson Fellowship in 2022. His recent books include poetry collection New Sea Land (Mākaro Press, 2016) and climate fiction novel Emergency Weather (The Cuba Press, 2023). His poem "All the Summer" is included in Koe: An Aotearoa Ecopoetry Anthology, edited by Janet Newman and Robert Sullivan (Otago University Press, 2024).
