Chair Yoga with Kate Alesio
Adults
Please join certified yoga instructor Kate Alesio for chair yoga, Thursdays from 11 am to 12 noon. In these classes, participants will learn and practice simple yoga exercises and breathing techniques in a way that is safe, easy and gentle for all bodies. Yoga is an ancient, time-tested system of mind/body/spirit healthcare.
Yoga exercises will be done sitting in chairs and/or using chairs for support while standing and balancing. Modern scientific research has proven the benefits of yoga in the treatment of arthritis, back pain, blood pressure, depression, anxiety, insomnia and bone density. Regular yoga practice may help to offset pain, improve flexibility and increase overall strength.
You will leave feeling relaxed and energized, with a quiet mind and peaceful perspective. All are welcome ~ come as you are! No prior experience required. Beginning and experienced students welcome. Please dress comfortably and plan to practice on a relatively empty stomach.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) - SBSH Speaker Series

COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is a group of lung diseases that block airflow and make it difficult to breathe. COPD is a progressive disease that affects more than 15 million adults in the U.S. more than half of which are women. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are the most common conditions. Dr. Kashif Hussain, board-certified in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine, and on staff at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, will discuss the causes and risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as strategies for living successfully with COPD. Short Story Series Discussion: The Collected Stories of Mavis Gallant

A widely admired master of the short story, Mavis Gallant was a Canadian-born writer who lived in France and died in 2014 at the age of ninety-one. Her more than one hundred stories, most published in The New Yorker over five decades beginning in 1951, have influenced generations of writers and earned her comparisons to Anton Chekhov, Henry James, and George Eliot. She has been hailed by Michael Ondaatje as “one of the great story writers of our time.”

Please join certified yoga instructor Kate Alesio for chair yoga, Thursdays from 11 am to 12 noon. In these classes, participants will learn and practice simple yoga exercises and breathing techniques in a way that is safe, easy and gentle for all bodies. Yoga is an ancient, time-tested system of mind/body/spirit healthcare.
Yoga exercises will be done sitting in chairs and/or using chairs for support while standing and balancing. Modern scientific research has proven the benefits of yoga in the treatment of arthritis, back pain, blood pressure, depression, anxiety, insomnia and bone density. Regular yoga practice may help to offset pain, improve flexibility and increase overall strength.
You will leave feeling relaxed and energized, with a quiet mind and peaceful perspective. All are welcome ~ come as you are! No prior experience required. Beginning and experienced students welcome. Please dress comfortably and plan to practice on a relatively empty stomach.

Peter Bond will present the riveting story told in his co-authored book "The Leak" that captured headlines 25 years ago. The discovery of a leak at Brookhaven National Laboratory ignited a political and media firestorm that resulted in the firing of the lab's contractor, the termination of scientific instruments, and threats to close the lab itself. The story is full of vivid characters, dramatic twists and turns, and sensational headlines in ways that bring to mind many of today's events.
Peter Bond is a retired physicist who worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory for 43 years in a wide variety of roles, including interim laboratory director during much of the period covered by this book.

Chair Yoga with Kate Alesio

Please join certified yoga instructor Kate Alesio for chair yoga, Thursdays from 11 am to 12 noon. In these classes, participants will learn and practice simple yoga exercises and breathing techniques in a way that is safe, easy and gentle for all bodies. Yoga is an ancient, time-tested system of mind/body/spirit healthcare.
Yoga exercises will be done sitting in chairs and/or using chairs for support while standing and balancing. Modern scientific research has proven the benefits of yoga in the treatment of arthritis, back pain, blood pressure, depression, anxiety, insomnia and bone density. Regular yoga practice may help to offset pain, improve flexibility and increase overall strength.

Just as we experience triumphs and setbacks, tensions and release, times of hope and fear, so too should our written stories, but the key to crafting realistic, complex narratives is a balance between these forces. In this generative workshop, we’ll discuss how to navigate this balance, a few foundational techniques behind strong, well-paced, and intricate plot structures, then through guided writing prompts and exercises, we'll take it a bit further by exploring how conflict and tension are built naturally, rooted in character motivation and development, and uses a healthy dose of chaos and surprise. We’ll also discuss revision strategies and how to layer these techniques to add complexity and depth to your writing. Participants will leave with plenty of ideas for possible stories, plot structures, and pages of new writing. Laptops are encouraged, but not required. Please join certified yoga instructor Kate Alesio for chair yoga, Thursdays from 11 am to 12 noon. In these classes, participants will learn and practice simple yoga exercises and breathing techniques in a way that is safe, easy and gentle for all bodies. Yoga is an ancient, time-tested system of mind/body/spirit healthcare.
Yoga exercises will be done sitting in chairs and/or using chairs for support while standing and balancing. Modern scientific research has proven the benefits of yoga in the treatment of arthritis, back pain, blood pressure, depression, anxiety, insomnia and bone density. Please join Joan Baum for a pre-Halloween talk on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, a remarkable epistolary novel written in 1897, full of horror and erotica that would influence and inspire sensational adaptations in movies, the theatre and pictorial art, serious and camp. While no literary masterpiece, Dracula shows that Abraham Stoker (1847-1912), an Irish author who spent his professional time as business manager of London’s West End’s Lyceum Theatre, knew his way around Gothic and Romantic literature, meta-philosophy and some of the scientific experimentation of the day. What is it about the book that lends itself to a legend that that has proved so attractive and enduring?

Please join certified yoga instructor Kate Alesio for chair yoga, Thursdays from 11 am to 12 noon. In these classes, participants will learn and practice simple yoga exercises and breathing techniques in a way that is safe, easy and gentle for all bodies. Yoga is an ancient, time-tested system of mind/body/spirit healthcare.
Yoga exercises will be done sitting in chairs and/or using chairs for support while standing and balancing. Modern scientific research has proven the benefits of yoga in the treatment of arthritis, back pain, blood pressure, depression, anxiety, insomnia and bone density. Regular yoga practice may help to offset pain, improve flexibility and increase overall strength.

Protecting Your Memorabilia Collectibles with Les Wolff

Les Wolff, a name well known in the world of autographs and sports memorabilia for more than six decades, will be at The East Hampton Library on Sunday October 29th from 2-3:30 PM, giving a lecture on protecting your memorabilia collectibles. Les has worked as the lead appraiser and authenticator for ESPN/Cox Communications' Memorabilia Road Tour, examining thousands of items brought to him. Les will cover how to collect, invest, protect and preserve collectibles. Bring one item having to do with sports, celebrities or presidents for evaluation.

In these classes, participants will learn and practice simple yoga exercises and breathing techniques in a way that is safe, easy and gentle for all bodies. Yoga is an ancient, time-tested system of mind/body/spirit healthcare.
Yoga exercises will be done sitting in chairs and/or using chairs for support while standing and balancing. Modern scientific research has proven the benefits of yoga in the treatment of arthritis, back pain, blood pressure, depression, anxiety, insomnia and bone density. Please join certified yoga instructor Kate Alesio for chair yoga, Thursdays from 11 am to 12 noon. In these classes, participants will learn and practice simple yoga exercises and breathing techniques in a way that is safe, easy and gentle for all bodies. Yoga is an ancient, time-tested system of mind/body/spirit healthcare.
Yoga exercises will be done sitting in chairs and/or using chairs for support while standing and balancing. Modern scientific research has proven the benefits of yoga in the treatment of arthritis, back pain, blood pressure, depression, anxiety, insomnia and bone density. Regular yoga practice may help to offset pain, improve flexibility and increase overall strength.
