CUNY Dance Initiatve Announces 2026-27 Call for Applications
The CUNY Dance Initiative (CDI), an expansive program providing New York City choreographers and dance companies with creative residencies on CUNY college campuses, announces its open call for applications for the 2026-27 academic year.
Applications will be accepted from December 9, 2025 – January 20, 2026 for residencies that will take place from July 2026 – June 2027. NYC-based individual choreographers and dance companies working in a variety of styles, from contemporary to classical and culturally specific forms, are encouraged to apply. The Museum of Modern Art announces a film series, MoMA and Cinecittà Present: Carlo Rambaldi, from December 10–24, 2025.
Driven by a natural interest in drawing and creating puppets and statuettes from a very early age, likely sparked by watching his father in his workshop, nine-year-old Carlo Rambaldi was forever changed when he saw King Kong (1933) in the theater and found himself mesmerized by animator Willis H. O'Brien's famous beast. Forty-two years later, Rambaldi moved to Hollywood to work on the 1976 remake, for which he was tasked with creating a 40-foot, six-and-a-half-ton mechanical version of the giant ape whose hands still had to be soft enough to hold a human love interest. By then Rambaldi was already a household name as a special-effects artist in Italy, where he shifted effortlessly between arthouse, giallo, and blunt exploitation movies, stunning audiences by bringing the unseen—monsters, spirits, and aliens—to vivid life. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. A musical celebration of an 18th century Christmas will be presented by Linda Russell and Companie at St. Michael’s Church Hall on Tuesday, December 16th at 7:00pm. The ensemble will trace the history of the holiday in the Colonies through carols, hymns, dance tunes, rounds and drinking songs interwoven with Yuletide poems, folklore and recipes. Hammered and mountain dulcimers, flute, bagpipes, harp, violin and cello combine to bring life to the music of Christmas Past.
