Lines of Influence: Artists Teaching Artists
Lines of Influence: Artists Teaching Artists celebrates the longstanding tradition of artists educating and learning from one another. The exhibition illuminates diverse pedagogies of artmaking across generations, tracing networks of mentorship that include color theorist Josef Albers, plein air instructor William Merritt Chase, Abstract Expressionist pioneer Hans Hofmann, and feminist educators Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro.
Drawing from the Heckscher Museum’s collection, this exhibition brings together 54 works by 39 artists, including paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and ceramics that span the nineteenth century to the present. It showcases never-before-exhibited works such as drawings of plaster casts by Thomas Anshutz and a terra cotta sculpture by Mary Frank. Other key works include an early abstract painting that Elaine De Kooning created while studying with Albers at Black Mountain College, teaching sketches by George Grosz, and a luminous “mindscape” painting by Richard Mayhew. Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at The Heckscher Museum 2026
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Long Island’s Best has been a hallmark of the Museum’s educational programming for three decades, showcasing the outstanding work of over 2,000 high school students from across Long Island. Long Island’s Best continues to be the only juried exhibition for Long Island high school students that provides the opportunity to exhibit in a museum.
Students are challenged to select artwork on view in the Museum as the inspiration for their own work, making creative connections with the generations who have come before them. The Heckscher encourages students to think outside the box as they work in a broad range of media, styles, and subjects. Students also write artist statements explaining their creative process. This year, 63 public and private schools submitted students’ artwork for jurying. 402 entr…

Fremin Gallery is delighted to announce the opening reception for "Invisible Library" by Argentinian artist Pancho Luna.
"Invisible Library" opens on Thursday, April 23rd at 6pm and will be on view through May 31th. We look forward to seeing you at the gallery to celebrate this new collaboration.
Pancho Luna, born July 15, 1957 is a mixed media sculptor interested in quasi-architectural arrangements where fabricated books are composed with the same care as a still life. Luna’s fascination with book shelves began in his grandmother’s library where he remembers it as a magical and eclectic place with many books in many languages he did not yet understand. He began to appreciate the different ways of reading a book -- as pure color, shape, smell, texture; as repositories of photographs, illustrations; and ultimately as sites of experience-- in short, as both symbols and objects. This nature of storytelling by means other than words on paper is the phenomenon Luna explores in his bookshelves. He says, “The bo…

What began as an annual exhibition of outstanding student work has become a lasting tradition⸺one that recognizes excellence while nurturing the next generation of creative thinkers.
402 entr…

The Sankofa Cinema Club
The Sankofa Cinema Club showcases untold, positive and accurate Black historical content within various aspects of life. The word Sankofa literally means "It is not taboo to go back for what you forgot (or left behind)" in the language Twi from the Akan tribe of Ghana. We will watch an enriching untold/hidden documentary and/or film together and have a fruitful and interactive discussion about it afterwards. I will try my best to get the filmmaker and/or related people to the content for a Q&A when possible.

402 entr…

Love in the Time of Fifth Grade
In this comedic one-woman show, Marina explores why she hit her sensual peak in elementary school -- and how her dating life crumbled after puberty.
Set in the early 2000s, Marina draws on a blend of multimedia (ahem stick figures in MS paint ahem), her Italian heritage and the force of Sharon Stone to share her real-life stories of Austen-esque passion from under the age of 10, and Dickensian misery after age 11. And yes, at one point she does flash her bra.
Ultimately, Marina’s journey shows that self discovery is literally about re-discovering your past self... and sharing their diary in public.

What began as an annual exhibition of outstanding student work has become a lasting tradition⸺one that recognizes excellence while nurturing the next generation of creative thinkers.
402 entr…

The History of Jazz in Greenwich Village, the East Village, and NoHo
In celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month…
Join us for a conversation about the history of jazz in our neighborhoods, using a brand new, first-of-its-kind map resource, the Village Preservation Jazz Map of Greenwich Village, the East Village, and NoHo.
For decades, Greenwich Village, the East Village, and NoHo have been epicenters of the jazz world, home to intimate clubs, daring experimentation, and trailblazing collaborations. Our new map traces this remarkable history through our streets, featuring the homes of legendary musicians and the sites of groundbreaking performances and recording sessions.
For this conversation, we will use the map to help us illustrate the evolution of jazz throughout the decades. Come hear how the music changed and see how the local jazz scene changed along with it, from speakeasy traditional jazz, to dive-bar hard bop, to artist-loft avant-garde.
What began as an annual exhibition of outstanding student work has become a lasting tradition⸺one that recognizes excellence while nurturing the next generation of creative thinkers.
402 entr…

Speakeasy, Die Softly: Immersive Murder Mystery Dinner Theater at Carmine's
The Dinner Theater Show Everyone’s Dying To Attend… At Carmine’s in Times Square!
Speakeasy, Die Softly is the most elaborate comedic immersive murder mystery ever performed by The Murder Mystery Company. During this killer show, guests will enjoy a three-course, family-style Italian feast in the newly renovated Sinatra Room at the legendary Carmine’s in Times Square.
The year is 1927, a time of flappers, mobsters, bootlegging, and countless seedy speakeasies. Come on into Lou Zar’s and shimmy to the live music of the club’s famous songstress, Lucy Morals, and her accompanist, Keys Yacar, or, if you prefer, play some casino games and win big money you can blow on “soda pop.” Unfortunately, the fun can’t last all night– the feds have been sniffing around! We need your help to flip the speakeasy into a “legitimate Italian restaurant” before the police raid the place. However, even amidst all these games, dames, and dons, someone had murder on their mind! You and your table team must help the detective solve…
