How to Poop in an Outhouse at -72°F

NYC, you thought you had a cold winter, now it’s time to learn How to Poop in an Outhouse at -72°F! Award winning storyteller Kona Morris tells the astonishing and hilarious true story of how, at 19-years-old, she fell in love with a Native Alaskan man and drove him home to Alaska, where she lived in a remote village north of the Arctic Circle for 5 years, surviving grizzly bears and subzero weather, while learning invaluable lessons from his tribe and becoming a young mother. Lines of Influence: Artists Teaching Artists celebrates the longstanding tradition of artists educating and learning from one another. The exhibition illuminates diverse pedagogies of artmaking across generations, tracing networks of mentorship that include color theorist Josef Albers, plein air instructor William Merritt Chase, Abstract Expressionist pioneer Hans Hofmann, and feminist educators Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro. Drawing from the Heckscher Museum’s collection, this exhibition brings together 54 works by 39 artists, including paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and ceramics that span the nineteenth century to the present. It showcases never-before-exhibited works such as drawings of plaster casts by Thomas Anshutz and a terra cotta sculpture by Mary Frank. Other key works include an early abstract painting that Elaine De Kooning created while studying with Albers at Black Mountain College, teaching sketches by George Grosz, and a luminous “mindscape” painting by Richard Mayhew. Students are challenged to select artwork on view in the Museum as the inspiration for their own work, making creative connections with the generations who have come before them. The Heckscher encourages students to think outside the box as they work in a broad range of media, styles, and subjects. Students also write artist statements explaining their creative process. Assembling a band of brothers, they have blended folk roots, reggae rhythms, and psychedelic indie, the band crafts music that feels like a sonic escape. From their breakout release “Here Before” to their latest album, Shadow Magic (2025), they’ve expanded their sound into deeper grooves and vivid storytelling—melding tropical textures, hypnotic beats, and a spirit of reflection. Notes on Collagen

“It’s amazing what you can hear on the subway. Even when you don’t want to.” Written and performed by storyteller and actress Fabiana Mattedi, NOTES ON COLLAGEN is a comic and heartfelt reckoning with beauty, aging, and identity. In this one-woman show, Mattedi blends sharp humor with poignant self-reflection as she interrogates the paradoxes of beauty — its power and its poison, its promise and its price. From the pressures of “aging gracefully” to the subtle violence of societal expectations, NOTES ON COLLAGEN invites audiences to laugh, think, and confront the invisible forces that shape how we see ourselves — and each other. Poignant, biting, and unexpectedly funny, this one-woman show dares to ask: what happens when we stop trying to preserve ourselves and start claiming ourselves instead? Category: Theater / Concerts. The Museum of Modern Art Presents: Marcel Duchamp

The Museum of Modern Art announces a retrospective exhibition, Marcel Duchamp, from April 12–August 22, 2026. “Why is this art?” is a question often asked by viewers of contemporary art. It is virtually impossible to answer it without referring to the work of Marcel Duchamp (1887–1968). Over a six-decade career, Duchamp challenged the very definition of the artwork, ushering in a new era of creative license—the reverberations of which are still felt today. While resistant to isms, Duchamp had a hand in modern art movements ranging from Cubism to Surrealism to Pop. His pursuits were marked by continuous reinvention and deliberate inconsistency: he forced himself to contradict himself in order to avoid conforming to his own taste. With its fragmentation of the human form, Duchamp's painting Nude Descending a Staircase (No. 2) (1912) produced shockwaves when it debuted at the legendary Armory Show in New York in 1913. His invention of the readymade as a form of sculpture forever altered the parameters of art a… Category: Art / Photography / Crafts. Contact Name: Shannon Darcy. Lines of Influence: Artists Teaching Artists

Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at The Heckscher Museum 2026

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Long Island’s Best has been a hallmark of the Museum’s educational programming for three decades, showcasing the outstanding work of over 2,000 high school students from across Long Island. What began as an annual exhibition of outstanding student work has become a lasting tradition⸺one that recognizes excellence while nurturing the next generation of creative thinkers. Long Island’s Best continues to be the only juried exhibition for Long Island high school students that provides the opportunity to exhibit in a museum. Students are challenged to select artwork on view in the Museum as the inspiration for their own work, making creative connections with the generations who have come before them. The Heckscher encourages students to think outside the box as they work in a broad range of media, styles, and subjects. Students also write artist statements explaining their creative process. Speakeasy, Die Softly: Immersive Murder Mystery Dinner Theater at Carmine's

The Dinner Theater Show Everyone’s Dying To Attend… At Carmine’s in Times Square! Speakeasy, Die Softly is the most elaborate comedic immersive murder mystery ever performed by The Murder Mystery Company. During this killer show, guests will enjoy a three-course, family-style Italian feast in the newly renovated Sinatra Room at the legendary Carmine’s in Times Square. The year is 1927, a time of flappers, mobsters, bootlegging, and countless seedy speakeasies. Come on into Lou Zar’s and shimmy to the live music of the club’s famous songstress, Lucy Morals, and her accompanist, Keys Yacar, or, if you prefer, play some casino games and win big money you can blow on “soda pop.” Unfortunately, the fun can’t last all night– the feds have been sniffing around! We need your help to flip the speakeasy into a “legitimate Italian restaurant” before the police raid the place.
