TOMS RIVER – The Ocean County Library is honored to present “Courage to Remember,” a traveling exhibit of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, at three branches during the month of April:

Holocaust Remembrance Day takes place from sundown Wednesday, April 23 through sundown Thursday, April 24. “Courage to Remember” consists of 40 panels in three sections that visually describe the Holocaust experience from 1933 through 1945.
The images capture the brutality of persecution and genocide, the danger of complacency and the urgency of memory. Characterized as a tribute and a warning, it has been seen by millions on six continents and continues to travel internationally.

The Greater Atlantic Partnership and Atlantic Prevention Resources proudly present The Power of Positivity: Life Without Limits Art Contest. Join us as we premiere our version of SIR ORFEO, of an old tale perfect for a spring evening.
Almost seven hundred years ago, a London contemporary of the young Chaucer recorded the ancient Orpheus myth into the Auchinleck Manuscript. In this Celtic-inspired version of the tale, our hero visits the realm of the Fairies rather than the spirits of the underworld. Be transported by Ben Matus’s arrangement of this Middle English legend, which reworks 14th-century English sources to set Middle English Lai to music.
The myth, which continued in an unbroken tradition until at least the 19th century in the Northern Islands (Shetland and Orkney Islands), touches on modern themes of “otherness” and reconciliation.

Almost seven hundred years ago, a London contemporary of the young Chaucer recorded the ancient Orpheus myth into the Auchinleck Manuscript. In this Celtic-inspired version of the tale, our hero visits the realm of the Fairies rather than the spirits of the underworld. Be transported by Ben Matus’s arrangement of this Middle English legend, which reworks 14th-century English sources to set Middle English Lai to music.
The myth, which continued in an unbroken tradition until at least the 19th century in the Northern Islands (Shetland and Orkney Islands), touches on modern themes of “otherness” and reconciliation.

WARETOWN – A year ago, a small photo array in the Ocean County Library Waretown Branch honored several former military members in honor of Veterans Day. Today, thanks to community members who have added to it, the display fills an entire wall and is still growing.
Branch Manager Jennifer Lennon placed the first photos before Veterans Day 2023, a gesture for family members and friends who “wore the colors.” It caught the attention of patrons, visitors and neighbors who asked if they might contribute.
“We still have people coming in and taking time to look over the pictures,” Jennifer said. “They ask if everyone is local. Some ask to be added. It makes me happy every time it happens.”
There now are 55 images of local wartime and peacetime veterans, five times the size of the original display, complete with names, branches, and theaters of operation.

Charitable Knitters Seek Yarn Donations at the Ocean County Library Jackson Branch
JACKSON TOWNSHIP – Your new, unused yarn can become something special for someone in need. The Ocean County Library Jackson Branch, in partnership with the Jackson Community Craters, seeks contributions of yarn through Tuesday, July 1.
The volunteer Jackson Community Crafters used donated yarn to make items for organizations serving disadvantaged people in Ocean County and nearby communities. They accept donations of new four-ply worsted yarn in all colors at the OCL Jackson Branch, 2 Jackson Drive.

TOMS RIVER –The Ocean County Library, in partnership with the Mental Health Awareness Committee of Ocean County and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), will host the 2025 Mental Health Provider Fair and Awards Ceremony in the OCL Toms River Branch, 4:30 PM to 7 PM Wednesday, May 7.
Representatives from Ocean County agencies that support children and adults affected by mental illnesses and/or substance abuse will be available during the fair to discuss resources and services.
The event also features the “Celebrating Wellness” awards ceremony at 5:30 PM. The awards ceremony will include a proclamation presentation from the Ocean County Board of Commissioners.

The kits can offer stimulating and entertaining support for patients of Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s disease and other memory loss syndromes, as well as for caregivers and others who are close to them.
Each kit is thematic and filled with photos, booklets, games and other items that match topics such as “Favorite Things: Dogs,” “Favorite Things: Patriotic,” “Remembering the 1960s,” seasons, locales, household activities and many more.
