Speakeasy, Die Softly: Immersive Murder Mystery Dinner Theater at Carmine's

The Dinner Show Everyone’s Dying To Attend… At Carmine’s in Times Square! Speakeasy, Die Softly is the newest and most elaborate comedic immersive murder mystery ever performed by The Murder Mystery Company. During this killer show, guests will enjoy a three-course, family-style Italian feast in the newly renovated Sinatra Room at the legendary Carmine’s in Times Square. The year is 1927, a time of flappers, mobsters, bootlegging, and countless seedy speakeasies. Come on into Lou Zar’s and shimmy to the live music of the club’s famous songstress, Lucy Morals, and her accompanist, Keys Yacar, or, if you prefer, play some casino games and win big money you can blow on “soda pop.” Unfortunately, the fun can’t last all night– the feds have been sniffing around, so we need your help to flip the speakeasy into a “legitimate Italian restaurant” before the police raid the place. Alkemie Presents Sir. Orfeo

Join us as we premiere our version of SIR ORFEO, of an old tale perfect for a spring evening. Almost seven hundred years ago, a London contemporary of the young Chaucer recorded the ancient Orpheus myth into the Auchinleck Manuscript. In this Celtic-inspired version of the tale, our hero visits the realm of the Fairies rather than the spirits of the underworld. Be transported by Ben Matus’s arrangement of this Middle English legend, which reworks 14th-century English sources to set Middle English Lai to music. The myth, which continued in an unbroken tradition until at least the 19th century in the Northern Islands (Shetland and Orkney Islands), touches on modern themes of “otherness” and reconciliation. Twisted Pine - Presented in Collaboration with City Winery

Boston-based Twisted Pine takes traditional American music in exhilarating directions. Praised by NPR for its “upbeat, poppy vibe; energetic, driving rhythms; virtuosic solos; and tight harmonies,” the group released its sophomore album Right Now in 2020, injecting its signature bluegrass sound with jazz, folk, funk, and more. “They were once bluegrass,” wrote The Boston Globe, “but … this Boston band has become something else, a wider version of string band, boundary jumpers akin to outfits like Punch Brothers, Nickel Creek, and Crooked Still.” Don’t miss Twisted Pine’s feel-good grooves, fearless improvisation, and precise arrangements at Caramoor. “Each member of this band is a runaway freight train of talent on their own, but together the jubilance of sound they unleash on a crowd is something to be marveled.” — Red Line Roots.

Veterans Tribute Grows at the Ocean County Library Waretown Branch

WARETOWN – A year ago, a small photo array in the Ocean County Library Waretown Branch honored several former military members in honor of Veterans Day. Today, thanks to community members who have added to it, the display fills an entire wall and is still growing. Branch Manager Jennifer Lennon placed the first photos before Veterans Day 2023, a gesture for family members and friends who “wore the colors.” It caught the attention of patrons, visitors and neighbors who asked if they might contribute. “We still have people coming in and taking time to look over the pictures,” Jennifer said. “They ask if everyone is local. Some ask to be added. It makes me happy every time it happens.” There now are 55 images of local wartime and peacetime veterans, five times the size of the original display, complete with names, branches, and theaters of operation. “I grew up in a military family. My dad, uncle and grandfather all served. So I have always had a very healthy respect for the military and its traditions,”… Category: Community Events / Volunteerism. Contact Name: Tom Mongelli.
