THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART PRESENTS Teo Hernández: A Pomegranate Orchard and the Bitter Well

The Museum of Modern Art announces a film series, Teo Hernández: A Pomegranate Orchard and the Bitter Well, from May 14–26, 2026. In only 23 years Teo Hernández, one of the central figures of Paris's queer avant-garde film scene of the 1970s and '80s, produced a monumental body of work that reveals how myth and zealous desire are inextricably knit to our everyday lives. Across more than 150 Super 8mm films, encompassing portraiture, urban landscapes, and diaristic cinema, he ceaselessly forged radical alternatives to linear time and perspectival vision, entrancing audiences with a visceral style that affects both body and spirit. Hernández conceived of the moving image as a pulsating expression of life itself. Hernández used to say that two opposing bloodlines ran through his veins. Born in Ciudad Hidalgo, Mexico, in 1939, he left the country in 1965. After 10 years of extensive travels through Central and North America, Europe, Morocco and India, he settled permanently in Paris in 1975. His first feature f… Category: Art / Photography / Crafts. New Jersey Women’s Revolutionary Experiences

Delve into the varied experiences of New Jersey women during the era of the American Revolution with historian Lucia McMahon. During the Revolution, some family homes were temporarily repurposed into military headquarters, disrupting familiar spaces and routines. New Jersey women were often directly “at the crossroads” of the war, in close proximity to troop movements, encampments, and combat. Contact Name: Morven Museum & Garden. Contact Phone: 6099248144. Just Powers: Long Island Biennial 2026

Every Sunday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday The Long Island Biennial, now in its ninth iteration, deepens connections between artists across Nassau and Suffolk counties and their communities. The exhibition uses the Declaration of Independence (1776) and George Grosz’s masterpiece of political art, Eclipse of the Sun (1926), as touchstones for thinking about power, national ideals, and public life. The Declaration of Independence set forth aspirational principles of liberty and equality, although its promises remain incomplete. A century and a half later, George Grosz’s searing painting exposed the corruption he saw at the heart of modern society. From an open call that attracted nearly six hundred submissions, the guest jurors selected 73 works by 69 artists that respond to these cultural and political legacies. Just Powers brings together the work of Long Island artists with diverse perspectives to reveal how democratic ideals are interpreted, challenged, and reimagined today. Baisley Pond Park Military Wreath Laying Ceremony

After investigating the area, I felt it was time to bring this to the attention of the American Legions, Auxiliaries and Community by petitioning to get the area acknowledged and upgraded so that all our Military Soldiers who served and lost their lives would be honored. Last year I invited the Queens Elected Officials to our first wreath laying event in the hope that they would assist in upgrading this area by naming it The Veterans Memorial Circle, and placing another monument… Category: Community Events / Volunteerism.
