It's about unlearning, growing backwards to grow better, and honoring the moment your in - the chair you've earned through healing, mistakes and, just showing up.
Each room will be alive filled with scent, sound, visuals, food. It's art you walk through, sit with the taste. I call it urban foraging a method of creating that pulls from your surrounding with care and intention. That philosophy is in my cooking, my life, and now this show. It's personal. Honest. Former Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore and Bishop William Barber II will headline The Immorality of Inaction: Voicing Truth on Climate, a gathering of climate, environmental, faith, Indigenous, and community leaders at Riverside Church. On Friday, September 18, a herd of 40 life-size buffalo puppets will roam through Lower Manhattan as Return of the Buffalo: Tatanka Owe Akupi kicks off its two-day New York City public art spectacle. Beginning at Bowling Green Park and ending in Foley Square, the procession will invite audiences to walk alongside the buffalo while experiencing live performances and artistic activations throughout the route.
The day’s lineup includes the Native Pride Dancers and Lenape elders at Bowling Green, guitarist collective Dither at Broad Street Plaza, Davóne Tines & THE TRUTH and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams at Federal Hall, and Susan Sarandon, Rosario Dawson and Resistance Revival Chorus at Zuccotti Park. Bideawee will pay a loving tribute to the community’s departed companion animals as it celebrates the 54th National Pet Memorial Day on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at its Wantagh Memorial Park. This annual ceremony will include speakers and a reading of dedications made in the memory of pets that have passed. Bideawee is one of the country’s oldest animal welfare and pet adoption organizations with locations in Manhattan and Long Island.

In 1972, the West German artist Marianne Wex began a visual survey of gendered body language. She picked up her camera and covertly photographed people in her hometown of Hamburg, observing how men and women were socialized to inhabit space differently. She also rephotographed pictures from advertisements, newspapers, magazines, film, television, and art catalogues, pasting the images onto boards organized into categories like standing arms, sitting legs, lying down, and possessive holds. Big Apple Beautifiers marks the milestone — and 5,000 volunteers along the way — with a Chinatown party and community cleanup
NEW YORK — "You are insane."
That was one of the first reactions Terry Sato heard when he and 3 other volunteers began cleaning New York City streets in 2006. People stared. Some dropped cigarette butts right in front of them.
The volunteers kept going anyway. Gradually, "You are insane" gave way to "Thank you," and eventually, "Can I join?"
Twenty years later, Big Apple Beautifiers (BAB) has held 245 monthly cleanups without interruption, drawing roughly 5,000 volunteer participations over the years. At its peak, turnout reached 70 people in a single morning, including about 10 volunteers who had traveled from Japan to take part. (One Japan-based volunteer still flies in a few times a year.) Dolly and Oz Presents, a contemporary art gallery and lifestyle brand, is bringing its signature blend of art, culture and community to New York City for the first time with “Where We Gather Now.” The exhibition will feature contemporary painter Jeremy Turpin, whose layered imagery and strategic color over black-and-white forms challenge how perception and history shape what we find beautiful, and sculptor Anita Katz, who draws on a personal history intertwined with architectural blueprints and family to build layered, tactile works that function as visual maps of an inhabited past. The exhibition will be on display September 22-26 with an opening reception on Wednesday, September 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. introducing New York collectors and locals to both artists’ work in tandem.

This 5-week hearth- and homestead-based series introduces children to traditional handcrafts and foodways through activities such as tea, butter, and candle making, as well as flower pressing, and canning.
