Pratt Design Symposium 2025: Designed for Living

Featuring: Sally Augustin, Principal, Design with Science Dakota Jackson, Furniture designer, Dakota Jackson, Inc. Sarah Paul, Interior Design Manager, Hariri Pontarini Architects moderated by Marc Rosen, cosmetics packaging designer and Pratt Trustee Emeritus Our home environment is an intrinsic part of our personal brand. How we live says as much about who we are as who we aspire to be. Design choices create a story. We are the architects of our lives, and there is no more exciting way to animate a sense of self than through design for living. To discuss the many facets of the home environment and interior spaces, Pratt Institute’s 2025 Design Symposium will convene a distinguished panel of designers and industry leaders for another special event in this long-running series. Strasberg gave me a technique built upon a foundation of truth. Among the great playwrights working today, John Patrick Shanley’s writing, with both the humor and the drama marbled together, demands a focus and agility that I acquired largely through Strasberg. THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART PRESENTS Artist’s Choice: Arthur Jafa–Less Is Morbid

The Museum of Modern Art announces an exhibition, Artist's Choice: Arthur Jafa—Less Is Morbid, from November 19, 2025–July 5, 2026. Less Is Morbid is a counter death wish, according to artist Arthur Jafa. Originally from Tupelo, Mississippi, and trained as an architect and cinematographer, he has become well-known for his collages, montages, assemblages, and installations—combining images imbued with what he calls affective capacity, or the emotional power of association. For this exhibition—the latest in MoMA's Artist's Choice series—Jafa has selected nearly 100 objects from the Museum's collection. Placing things beside one another, he creates relationships between pictures and between their makers: Jean-Michel Basquiat and Cy Twombly; Cady Noland and Mark Rothko; Lygia Clark, Roy DeCarava, and Piet Mondrian. Many of the works share an allover approach to composition in which the picture exceeds its physical frame. Seen together, the installation of works collapses typically opposed ideas and approaches—m… Category: Art / Photography / Crafts. Thursday, November 20, 2025 – Sunday, July 5, 2026. A multidisciplinary maker whose oeuvre includes video, film, cinematography, sculpture, and artist's books, Jafa's preoccupation with the moving image is longstanding. Jafa began his career working on Black cinema classics, including serving as cinematographer on Daughters of the Dust and Crooklyn, and film techniques have been foundational for Jafa across years of art-making. In conjunction with his exhibition Artist's Choice: Arthur Jafa—Less Is Morbid, Jafa has organized a Carte Blanche film program, a nonlinear survey of his cinematic influences and interests. Presented in pairs, the films' unexpected juxtapositions of style and content allow audiences to see each work in surprising new ways. The American Poets Corner was established in 1983 to memorialize the lives and literary achievements of influential American writers. The first inductees were Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, and Washington Irving; over the years the list has grown to include such diverse voices as Emma Lazarus, James Baldwin, and Audre Lorde, among many others. Lifting up the legacy of these authors – those who have taught us how to both speak and listen, freely and with deep humanity – may be more important now than ever before. The program of readings will be followed by a light reception and the opportunity to explore the striking evening beauty of the Cathedral. This celebration is free and open to the public. Category: Art / Photography / Crafts. Community Events / Volunteerism. Festivals / Parades. Meetings / Hearings. Museum / Exhibitions. School / Education. Theater / Concerts. Misc. Cost: Free. Mannes Opera Presents: Turandot & Puzzles and Games

Join us for this season's Opera in Concert! A striking fairytale pairing from two very different worlds. Busoni’s urbane, witty Turandot, based on Carlo Gozzi’s 18th-century play and steeped in commedia dell’arte tradition, receives a rare outing in its 1971 concert version. In vivid counterpoint, Unsuk Chin’s Puzzles and Games is a fantastical sequence drawn from her acclaimed 2007 opera Alice in Wonderland, with a libretto by Tony Award–winner David Henry Hwang. Rarely performed and full of theatrical daring, this double bill is also part of the renewed recognition of Busoni as one of the 20th century’s most important composers and teachers; while Chin’s score brims with playful rhythmic invention, dazzling orchestration, and a surreal sense of wonder, refracting Lewis Carroll’s world through a modern, global lens. In one evening, audiences will travel from an early 20th-century European reinterpretation of an Italian fairytale set in China, to a 21st-century musical dreamscape born of British lit… Category: Theater / Concerts. Speakeasy, Die Softly: Immersive Murder Mystery Dinner Theater at Carmine's

The Dinner Show Everyone’s Dying To Attend… At Carmine’s in Times Square! Speakeasy, Die Softly is the most elaborate comedic immersive murder mystery ever performed by The Murder Mystery Company. During this killer show, guests will enjoy a three-course, family-style Italian feast in the newly renovated Sinatra Room at the legendary Carmine’s in Times Square. Come on into Lou Zar’s and shimmy to the live music of the club’s famous songstress, Lucy Morals, and her accompanist, Keys Yacar, or, if you prefer, play some casino games and win big money you can blow on “soda pop.” Unfortunately, the fun can’t last all night– the feds have been sniffing around! We need your help to flip the speakeasy into a “legitimate Italian restaurant” before the police raid the place. Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion

Bernard Shaw's PYGMALION! Before My Fair Lady, there was Pygmalion—the razor-sharp, wildly entertaining original that redefined romantic comedy for the modern age. Set in the vibrant streets and drawing rooms of pre-WWI London, this timeless classic follows Eliza Doolittle, a spirited flower seller with big dreams, and Professor Henry Higgins, a brilliant but socially unevolved linguist who wagers he can pass her off as a duchess by teaching her to behave and to speak “properly.” But what begins as a game of manners and accents soon escalates into something far deeper—a battle of wills, a clash of class, and a search for identity that still resonates today. Don’t miss this limited run of Shaw’s most beloved play—smart, stylish, and full of heart. Category: Theater / Concerts. Contact Name: Emily McGill. Contact Phone: 212-355-7823. Spirits at Carmine’s

“Spirits” is an immersive theatrical experience, written by Scott Cramton, set in 1927 at Lou Zar’s Speakeasy. The tragic story focuses on Olive Thomas, an immigrant who recently moved to New York City with hopes of making a name for herself. Hopes aside, she cannot reach fame without a little help from beyond the veil. She makes a dreadful deal and soon becomes a lounge singer at Lou’s. Her popularity quickly rises, and apparitions haunt her as her deal begins to bend. Masked audience members decide the fate of Olive Thomas as reapers prepare for her to break her promise. This two-hour experience will include complementary desserts and a cash bar for guests to enjoy, stunning special effects, live music, and hidden games. An untrustworthy narrator, Mr. Scratch will guide you through this twisted story and, by the end, you’ll be left wondering: are you truly alive, or are you a spirit? Category: Theater / Concerts.

During the pandemic, ocean scientist Georgy Manucharyan reached out to violinist Rachel Lee Priday with fascinating videos of fluid dynamics experiments he had captured in his lab. These films struck Rachel as water choreography, seeking a musical response from a group of leading American composers to engage with the ways in which the laws of physics, which unite us all, leave space for individuality, chance, and interpretation.

However, even amidst all these games, dames, and dons, someone had murder on their mind! You and your table team must help the detective solve the crim… Category: Theater / Concerts.
