Reimagined Street Scenes

This installation features six illuminated art panels hand crafted by Lisa Marie Patzer Studios. The visuals are inspired from photographic 35mm slides shot by Ben Kabakow, a NYC postal worker and photographer. Kabakow travelled the world throughout the mid-1900's, capturing images of urban features such as buildings, cars, signs, and people. With color, pattern, and a retro-graphic design, Lisa Marie reimagines scenes from Ben's travels with a surreal and whimsical aesthetic. Lisa Marie Patzer is a digital media artist, designer, and entrepreneur creating site-specific art that integrates light, pattern, historic imagery, and vibrant color. In recognition of her exceptional contributions to the field, she received the prestigious Pew Fellowship in the Arts in 2019. The following year, she was awarded the Sachs Arts and Innovation grant from the University of Pennsylvania. Revelations: An Evolution of Introspection

Twenty years ago, New Orleans underestimated the impact of Hurricane Katrina. After Katrina hit land, aging infrastructure failed, an entire city was thrown into an unimaginable hellscape of flooding waters and crumbling humanity, and the United States Government proved institutional neglect, and systemic inequalities were (and are) still very much a part of the American way of life – especially for people of color. Two photographers, Donald Camp and Clarence Williams, reflect on that history today in their two-person exhibition Revelations: An Evolution of Introspection at the InLiquid Gallery in the Kensington neighborhood in Philadelphia, PA. With this exhibition, InLiquid aims to educate our community and share resources to prevent such tragedies from happening here in the Kensington area of Philadelphia. Ideally, this artwork and the education our programming will provide can also be shared as a resource in cities throughout the country as global climate change continues to evolve and creates the need fo… Category: Art / Photography / Crafts.

Shepard Fairey's Uplift Justice Mural Dedication

Internationally acclaimed street artist Shepard Fairey—famous worldwide for his OBEY Giant imagery and the iconic “Hope” poster—will unveil a new mural in Philadelphia called Uplift Justice. This project marks the first time the artist has been in Philadelphia since 2015, when he painted a mural for Open Source and dedicated another mural to DJ culture as part of the Mural Arts’ Art Education program. Uplift Justice will be Fairey’s largest and most prominent mural in the city, and it is also the only existing mural he has personally painted here. Meant as a call for justice, this mural is intentionally placed in the city center next to Love Park. It depicts a woman’s face of ambiguous race, looking upward thoughtfully, accompanied by symbols such as the scales of justice, the Liberty Bell, and Fairey’s distinctive design style. It expresses themes of hope, reflection, and shared ideals. There’s a clear balance between the message he wants to share and the collective people we imagine when talking about jus… Category: Art / Photography / Crafts. Community Events / Volunteerism. Sympathy Towards a Soldier: The Music and Death of Major John André

THE PUBLICK PLEASURE PRESENTS: Sympathy Towards a Soldier - The Music and Death of Major John André Part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival During the British occupation of Philadelphia, Major John André was a favorite among tory young ladies and well loved by his peers. The celebration included music on barges in the Delaware, a joust, feasting and a candlelit ball. Within two years of the Meschianza, Major André was arrested for espionage in league with Benedict Arnold. Fearing an ignominius death by hanging, Major André begged General Washington to have “sympathy towards a soldier” and grant him death by firing squad. Veterans Tribute Grows at the Ocean County Library Waretown Branch

WARETOWN – A year ago, a small photo array in the Ocean County Library Waretown Branch honored several former military members in honor of Veterans Day. Today, thanks to community members who have added to it, the display fills an entire wall and is still growing. Branch Manager Jennifer Lennon placed the first photos before Veterans Day 2023, a gesture for family members and friends who “wore the colors.” It caught the attention of patrons, visitors and neighbors who asked if they might contribute. “We still have people coming in and taking time to look over the pictures,” Jennifer said. “They ask if everyone is local. Some ask to be added. It makes me happy every time it happens.” There now are 55 images of local wartime and peacetime veterans, five times the size of the original display, complete with names, branches, and theaters of operation. “I grew up in a military family. My dad, uncle and grandfather all served. So I have always had a very healthy respect for the military and its traditions,”… Category: Community Events / Volunteerism. Contact Name: Tom Mongelli. Revelations: An Evolution of Introspection

What Is Peace Journalism and Why Does It Matter?

Peace Journalism is about what to report and how to report it in a way that creates non-violent responses to conflict. Unlike traditional reporting that is often divisive and sensational, Peace Journalism is conflict-sensitive, peace-oriented, and human-centered. It highlights solutions, gives voice to the voiceless, and explains the root causes of conflict. Peace Journalism empowers the media’s role in peacebuilding by promoting understanding, empathy, inclusiveness, and constructive dialogue.
