In 1927, FIRE!! a quarterly magazine “Devoted to Younger Negro Artists” was published in Harlem and changed the future of American literature. Including illustrations, poems, essays, short stories, and plays, FIRE!! was the first all-Black magazine, by a young group of writers and artists, including Wallace Thurman, Zora Neale Hurston, Aaron Douglas, John P. Davis, Richard Bruce Nugent, Gwendolyn Bennett, Lewis Grandison Alexander, Countee Cullen, and Langston Hughes. This installation features six illuminated art panels hand crafted by Lisa Marie Patzer Studios. The visuals are inspired from photographic 35mm slides shot by Ben Kabakow, a NYC postal worker and photographer. Kabakow travelled the world throughout the mid-1900's, capturing images of urban features such as buildings, cars, signs, and people. With color, pattern, and a retro-graphic design, Lisa Marie reimagines scenes from Ben's travels with a surreal and whimsical aesthetic.

WARETOWN – A year ago, a small photo array in the Ocean County Library Waretown Branch honored several former military members in honor of Veterans Day. Today, thanks to community members who have added to it, the display fills an entire wall and is still growing.
Branch Manager Jennifer Lennon placed the first photos before Veterans Day 2023, a gesture for family members and friends who “wore the colors.” It caught the attention of patrons, visitors and neighbors who asked if they might contribute.
“We still have people coming in and taking time to look over the pictures,” Jennifer said. “They ask if everyone is local. Some ask to be added. It makes me happy every time it happens.”
There now are 55 images of local wartime and peacetime veterans, five times the size of the original display, complete with names, branches, and theaters of operation.

Join Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens (PMG) for Everything But the Kitchen Sink Mosaic Workshop, a two-hour workshop led by the PMG education team exploring techniques used by PMG creator Isaiah Zagar. Known for his unique and, some say, liberating method for creating mosaics, participants will examine Zagar murals, prepare and create materials, and make their own mosaic.
In this workshop, guests learn how to cut glass, break tile, mix grout, and lay out a small 9″ x 9″ mosaic to take home. The program empowers participants with mosaic-making skills and inspiration for future endeavors. Please be aware that the working space can only be accessed by stairs. This workshop is open to participants ages 12+, but all participants under 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult participant.

The Ocean County Library Manchester Branch’s “Chicks with Sticks” will use it to make special handmade gifts in time for the end-of-year holidays.
Each year, the knitting and crocheting group supports the Ocean County Health Department’s collection drive of gloves, mittens, hats and scarves, given at holiday time to children who use the services of OCHD’s various clinics. Yarn is essential for this worthy cause, and supplies are low.

Join Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens Preservation Team for a three-week workshop and create a 24" x 16" mosaic panel using the Zagar Method. Taught by staff trained by PMG creator Isaiah Zagar himself, you’ll learn the process from start to finish. In the first week, you'll create a colorful “blob” to use in your design. Week two is all about mastering the art of breaking tile and cutting mirror, followed by placing your tiles to plan your masterpiece. This installation features six illuminated art panels hand crafted by Lisa Marie Patzer Studios. The visuals are inspired from photographic 35mm slides shot by Ben Kabakow, a NYC postal worker and photographer. Kabakow travelled the world throughout the mid-1900's, capturing images of urban features such as buildings, cars, signs, and people. With color, pattern, and a retro-graphic design, Lisa Marie reimagines scenes from Ben's travels with a surreal and whimsical aesthetic.
Lisa Marie Patzer is a digital media artist, designer, and entrepreneur creating site-specific art that integrates light, pattern, historic imagery, and vibrant color. In recognition of her exceptional contributions to the field, she received the prestigious Pew Fellowship in the Arts in 2019. The following year, she was awarded the Sachs Arts and Innovation grant from the University of Pennsylvania. It's Haunting time and Camden County 4-H volunteers and members are busy transforming Lakeland into the annual Haunted Walk. Two is better than one! The Haunted Walk will be held on two weekends this year on Oct. 10-11 and Oct. 17-18 from 7-10:30 pm. The walk takes place in and around the Camden County Office of Sustainability at 508 Lakeland Road, Blackwood. Suggested for children ages 8 and up, the Haunting serves as the largest 4-H fundraiser of the year and has been held for more than 25 years.

The Fall 2025 term of Suzuki Pre-Twinkle will run September 27 through December 6 (no class November 29th).
Pre-Twinkle Classes provide opportunities for very young children to develop basic musicianship and readiness skills for success in the Suzuki approach. A core component of Pre-Twinkle classes at Temple Music Prep is Suzuki POP (Paper Orchestra Program). Students will build a violin, viola, and/or guitar out of everyday household items, sing, and move with their instruments. Students will have a variety of musical enrichment activities that mix arts and crafts with music. Students will do drills to start establishing a set of violin/viola/guitar performing skills. Students will learn instrument and bow parts or strum patterns plus the famous “Twinkle Variations” on their Paper instruments. At the end of the session, students will present a short performance to show off their instrument.

Join us as we dig into history with archaeological excavations at Newlin Grist Mill and learn more about the site through the evidence under our feet!
The public is invited to participate (or just watch) as Newlin Grist Mill’s professional archaeologist, Keith Doms, and a dedicated corps of archaeology volunteers seek to gain a deeper understanding of the site’s history through careful excavation using scientific techniques and thorough documentation. Depending on the day, visitors might be invited to help screen excavated soil to look for small artifacts or assist with cleaning artifacts that have already been excavated.
Excavations this season are planned for the Trimble farm complex in the Historic Area. WARETOWN – A year ago, a small photo array in the Ocean County Library Waretown Branch honored several former military members in honor of Veterans Day. Today, thanks to community members who have added to it, the display fills an entire wall and is still growing.
Branch Manager Jennifer Lennon placed the first photos before Veterans Day 2023, a gesture for family members and friends who “wore the colors.” It caught the attention of patrons, visitors and neighbors who asked if they might contribute.
“We still have people coming in and taking time to look over the pictures,” Jennifer said. “They ask if everyone is local. Some ask to be added. It makes me happy every time it happens.”
There now are 55 images of local wartime and peacetime veterans, five times the size of the original display, complete with names, branches, and theaters of operation.
