Chester County Studio Tour-Studio 36
Come out and meet the artists of studio 36.
Saturday May 16th 10-6PM and Sunday May 17th 11-5PM
From studio host Stacy: I create fine art photography that captures the deep emotional connection between horses and humans. With a background in both photography and dressage, I use light, shadow, and composition to reveal the beauty, strength, and spirit of the equine form. While horses are at the heart of my work, I also explore still life, florals, and nature through a fine art lens—always seeking to create imagery that feels both timeless and intimate.
From guest artist Ivy:
I began my art career eighteen years ago in commercial art, but my focus shifted in recent years to create sparkly mosaics and custom paintings. Beginning my mosaics with a simple acrylic or gouache painting provides me with a foundation. Working with mosaics gives me the chance to take broken pieces of glass and make them into a new creation. Since mosaics require a sturdy surface, I create them on canvas panels or cradled wood panels.…

Athletes at the Table: Panel and Networking Combatting Food Insecurity
Athletes at the Table: Panel and Networking Combatting Food Insecurity features former Sixers Aaron McKie and Theo Ratliff, former Eagle Rodney McLeod and a staff member from nonprofit It Takes a Village to Feed One Child. This star-studdede group is collaborating on a panel to talk about how nutrition and exercise help build brain health and healthy development, leading to success both on and off the court/field. It will be moderated by Quincy Harris and the panel is joined by Janet Doman, Director of Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential.
This is an especially important topic now as SNAP and Medicaid benefits are being cut and grocery prices are skyrocketing so it’s an easy time to take healthy foods off your family’s plate – but these Philly athletes are reminding us why this short-term impact on your wallet will have long-term effects on your health.
This is a free event but donations are appreciated and will go towards ITAVTFOC’s weekend meals program.

Yannick Leads Bruckner and Sorey
Celebrating the Orchestra’s 125th anniversary and its unique place in the City of Philadelphia, this bravura program opens with a world premiere by Philly-based composer Tyshawn Sorey, commissioned by the Orchestra and Yannick Nézet-Séguin and performed by the great pianist Aaron Diehl. The concert closes with Bruckner’s soaring, majestic, thrill ride of a symphony, his Third.
An America 250 Event
As Philadelphia takes part in the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations, we are proud to honor the voices of those who helped shape our country but were not fully heard in 1776. The world premiere of Sorey’s Piano Concerto, commissioned by the Orchestra, reflects our commitment to amplifying historically marginalized voices and inviting great American musicians to our stages.
Tyshawn Sorey is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and a former Opera Philadelphia composer-in-residence. He’s also the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music, a distinction he shares with such legends as Wynton Marsalis, Aaron…

These performances will also mark the final concerts of CCC Founder, Executive & Artistic Director John Alston, before his retirement in August 2026.
“Who doesn’t want to finish a musical career with The Beatles?” Alston said. “They gave us some of the world’s most compelling melodies. I can barely contain myself when our children sing the ‘Hey Jude’ hook.”
Following the concert, guests are invited to a reception in the Lang Performing Arts Center (LPAC), adjacent to Lang Concert Hall.
Please note: due to extraordinary interest in John Alston’s final concerts before his retirement, we ask guests to attend one performance, so more people can share in this special moment.

Opera Philadelphia: The Black Clown
Creator and opera revolutionary Davóne Tines brings Langston Hughes’ poem “The Black Clown” to musical life in a vaudevillian rendering of this masterpiece. Fusing gospel, opera, jazz, and spirituals into a searing night of theatrical brilliance, The Black Clown embodies the evolving, divided soul of Black America and animates a Black man’s resilience against a legacy of oppression. The Black Clown has been hailed as “pure poetry” by The Boston Globe, and The New York Times lauds “this rich, seamless production melds the past and present of African-American history into an electrifyingly ambivalent whole.” Tines makes his Opera Philadelphia debut alongside an ensemble of 12 performers in this genre-bending, visually arresting piece, juxtaposing dazzling cathartic performances with Hughes’ enduring work.
All tickets are Pick Your Price, starting at $11. Any amount above $11 helps support other operagoers and the work Opera Philadelphia presents on stage.

The Savoy Company presents Gilbert & Sullivan's The Gondoliers!
Come dance the cachucha and join The Savoy Company in celebrating our 125th anniversary year with Gilbert & Sullivan's uplifting operetta, The Gondoliers! Set in Venice and the fictional kingdom of Barataria, the plot centers on two gondoliers, Marco and Giuseppe, who discover that one of them is the rightful king but cannot determine which. They agree to rule jointly until the true monarch can be identified, allowing Gilbert to satirize monarchy, aristocracy, and British political institutions. The show is especially noted for its unusually warm tone and emphasis on equality, reflecting contemporary late-Victorian debates about class and governance.
Through its witty dialogue, lively ensemble numbers, and playful mockery of aristocracy and political systems, the operetta celebrates equality while poking fun at rigid class distinctions and the pretensions of monarchy.
Premiered in 1889, The Gondoliers is the twelfth collaboration between librettist W.S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan. The show ran for…

The Black Clown

The Wilma Theater presents: The America Play by Suzan-Lori Parks
A Black Abraham Lincoln impersonator named the “Foundling Father” runs “The Great Hole of History,” a tourist attraction where visitors can meet other historical lookalikes. The poetic repetition and evocative jazz-like style of this canonic text mimics the harmful patterns and toxic ideologies perpetuated throughout American history. ‘The America Play’ is a daring exploration of the fractured stories that shape our nation from one of our most prominent American playwrights, Pulitzer and Tony Award-winner, Suzan-Lori Parks. Directed by HotHouse Member and Co-Artistic Director Lindsay Smiling (The Half-God of Rainfall), this play challenges us to redefine what it means to be American in the context of our current political landscape. The Wilma’s HotHouse ensemble brings this imaginative work to life, creating a space for active dialogue, catharsis, and deep connection with the audience.

City Winery Philadelphia presents “Echoes of Soul” A Tribute to The S.O.S. Band & Atlantic Starr featuring Julie Ennis on May 20th at 7:30pm.
Atlantic Starr was one of the most consistently successful – and underrated – soul bands of the 80s and early 90s, with a basketful of memorable songs including “Always” “Secret Lovers” “Circles” “Silver Shadow” and “Masterpiece”. The S.O.S. Band is an R&B and electro-funk group who also gained fame in the 80s. After college, Julie began recording under Paul Minor’s guidance as well as that of legendary R&B artist Al Johnson of The Unifics. Wendlo
City Winery Philadelphia Presents: Wendlo live on May 20th at 7:30pm.
At a time when many artists chase trends, Wendlo has built a global audience by leaning into something far more powerful: authenticity, musical craftsmanship, and a direct connection with listeners. The singer/songwriter-pop duo of Jacob and Chelsea Hamilton, blends indie-pop songwriting with tight vocal harmonies, distinctive guitar tones and inventive arrangements that feel both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.
Recording, producing, filming, and promoting much of their work themselves, the duo crafted a unique sound built on their stripped-down and playful reinterpretations of pop classics along with emotionally resonant original songs earning them a devoted online following.
The range of their songwriting is on full display in cheeky songs like “Wasting Time With You” and “Must Be Nice!” which shows their balance between playfulness and poignancy. The more heartfelt songs like “Love Me” and “Shadow” examine reciprocity in love, whil…

Dan Rodriguez
City Winery Philadelphia Presents: Dan Rodriguez live on Thursday, May 21st at 7:30pm.
Hi, I’m Dan. I’m a whiskey & beer drinking, fishing & hunting loving, motorcycle riding, quality food eating, hippie sympathizing, hobby farm running, people loving, husband & father who lives in Minneapolis and shares a life with my amazing wife and two adorable sons named Oak and Alder.
I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, MI, and moved to Minneapolis when I was 18 to study music, and I stayed because I’m one of those crazy people that enjoys the snow and cold weather.
Songwriting, and performing those songs for people, is both my trade and my passion. When I’m not in my studio writing and cutting records, or on the road playing shows, I’m usually playing in the woods with our boys, tending to our backyard chickens, eating fresh veggies from my wife’s huge garden, making syrup from our maple grove, or doing one of my many outdoor hobbies.
Now here are a few things about my music career that I should probably share in…

But maybe also sexier." (Source pending.) All Your Friends
An indie dance party for the ones who still romanticize a scratched iPod, American Spirits, and a blurry night soundtracked by bloghouse and post-punk revival. All Your Friends is at Underground Arts on 22 May 2026, bringing the sweat, synths, and nostalgia of the early 2010’s house party.
This is your basement-floor flashback to tight jeans, smudged eyeliner, and nights that felt like a house show turned afterparty. Expect a high-energy dance floor fueled by indie sleaze classics and remixes you forgot you loved, from LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture to Foals, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, MGMT, Crystal Castles, and more. No frills, just bodies in motion.
Whether you never left the Lower East Side or just miss the chaos of that era, All Your Friends is a night dedicated to bad decisions, blown speakers, and the soundtrack of your favorite forgotten memories. Come ready for the sweat, the noise, and the party your Tumblr warned you about at Underground Arts.

Exhibition Tours: A Nation of Artists
The Nation of Artists tour explores the diverse narratives of American art and identity throughout the newly restored Historic Landmark Building. Led by experienced docents, the tour examines the internationalism and global exchange of American art while also highlighting works from the 18th century to the modern day which feature American artists responding to the social conditions of their time.
Organized in conjunction with America's 250th anniversary, A Nation of Artists examines how artistic production in the United States has been shaped by creativity, exchange, expansion, conflict, and innovation. At PAFA, works made from the late 18th century to today will be arranged thematically to explore scenes of westward expansion, the rise of industry, and international exchange.
Installed throughout PAFA's recently restored Historic Landmark Building, the exhibition will chart America's history from 1700 to the present day thorough more than 1,000 paintings, photographs, sculptures, decorative arts, and more…

Emo Night Brooklyn
Welcome to Emo Night Brooklyn, a late-night, DJ-driven dance party blasting the best emo and pop punk jams that raised us, ruined us, and somehow still define us. We’re taking over The Stone Pony in Asbury Park on 24 May 2026 for a night of screaming every word, moshing with strangers, and feeling absolutely everything.
This is not a quiet night out. Expect wall-to-wall emo and pop punk anthems, deep cuts, and songs you still know by heart even if you pretend you’ve “moved on.” From the tracks that got you through your worst years to the ones that still hit a little too hard, Emo Night Brooklyn is all about losing your voice, finding your people, and reliving the music that made us who we are. And yeah sometimes special guests and your favorite artists even jump in to join the chaos.
Come ready to scream, mosh, dance, cry in the corner (no judgment), and throw yourself into the pit with all your favorite people. Tell the DJs what you want to hear and we promise we listen better than your ex. It’s loud, it’s…

Community
Community, as defined in the Oxford Dictionary, is “a feeling of fellowship with others, as
a result of sharing common attitudes and interests”. A sense of community can lead to
empowerment and foster change in one’s life. My intention with this installation is to
suggest and comment on the urgency in our world these days of people coming
together regardless of their physicality or ethnicity. I hope to inspire introspection and
unity as we move forward during this challenging global time.

The Great Privation (How to Flip Ten Cents Into a Dollar)
In 1832, a mother and daughter keep vigil at a grave by The African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Philadelphia. Today, at a summer camp on the same grounds, a new, yet not entirely different mother and daughter sing camp songs and try to keep the daughter from getting expelled. As the mother in each generation tries to protect her family, both the living and the dead, timelines collide and secrets and souls become buried and revealed. What Talkin’ Broadway called “Joyous. A Lesson for our times.” The Great Privation (How to flip ten cents into a dollar) is a darkly comic play about our nation’s long practice of harming Black bodies in the name of scientific progress, our responsibility to time, the importance of truth, and the role joy plays in living with a history we cannot change.

Beethoven and Marsalis
Composer, trumpeter, and standard-bearer for the art form, jazz legend Wynton Marsalis has earned scores of awards including the Pulitzer Prize for Music. In 1983, he became the first and only artist ever to win both a Classical and Jazz GRAMMY in the same year; in 1984 he did it again. Joined by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra performs Marsalis’s newest work on a program with Beethoven’s lively, melodic Seventh Symphony.
An America 250 Event
As Philadelphia takes part in the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations, we are proud to honor the voices of those who helped shape our country but were not fully heard in 1776. The world premiere of Marsalis’s Symphony No. 5 (“Liberty”), co-commissioned by the Orchestra, reflects our commitment to amplifying historically marginalized voices and inviting great American musicians to our stages.
