Friends of the Nevada County Libraries Used Book Sale

California and local history will be featured at this month's used book sale sponsored by the Friends of the Nevada County Libraries (FOL). The sale -- including thousands of books for children and adults, CDs, and DVDs -- will be from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Shoppers should enter on the Foley Library's lower level on the York Street side. Prices generally range from 25 cents to $1, and up.
Founded in 1972, FOL is a charitable nonprofit organization. Its mission is to support programs benefiting the Nevada County Library system. The Trek to Nepal -- A Slideshow and Presentation by Dave Weixelman
Join Dave Weixelman for an evening of highlights and stories of his 10-day trek to the Langtang Valley in Nepal in fall 2025. The trip provided an incredible, immersive experience in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Highlights of his trip included visiting the city of Bhaktapur, near Kathmandu, visiting temples and palaces in Durbar Square, and trekking to villages in the high Himalayan mountains. Dave enjoyed botanizing and seeing the diverse flora in the mountains of Nepal.
He will also update us about the disastrous floods, which occurred recently on August 26. It was triggered by a massive glacier-related collapse that caused catastrophic flash flooding across multiple districts, including the area of his 2025 trek, near the village of Syabrubesi on the Bhote Koshi River area of Nepal, one of the hardest hit areas in the flooding.

Join the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe and HUṠWEJ for our 17th annual Nisenan Heritage Day on Sunday, October 11th from 12:00pm - 4:00pm.
Together, we’ll celebrate Nisenan Culture and the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe’s history and future in their Ancestral Homelands.
This year’s event will include educational panels about Indigenous Land Stewardship and Tribal TEK, as-well-as conversations about funding for continued Land Rematriation.
Featured guests this year include author Josh Weils who will share about his acclaimed book, “What Came West” and his amazing art! This free family event that celebrates creativity, community spirit, and of course, our four-legged companions. What began in 2014 with just 14 dogs has grown into one of Nevada County’s most beloved traditions, with a record-breaking 600+ dogs in attendance in 2023.

We'll spend our time focusing on our writing, but with that magical element of doing so within the presence of others. Come discover the amazing experience of writing within the context of a group. Bring your computer, notebook, iPad, or whatever you like to use for writing. We share resources, discuss our goals and challenges, even provide feedback, but the primary focus of the group is to work on your own play! Fall for Dance returns to the Don Baggett Theater November 19–21, featuring more than 150 Nevada Union dancers performing original choreography in hip hop, jazz, modern, ballet, contemporary, fusion and more. This year’s production marks the first Fall for Dance to feature original works choreographed by NU student dancers, alongside pieces created by professional dance artists.
