In this Ceramics and Pottery Class, we will use hand-building techniques to make functional and non-functional ceramics and pottery projects using slabs and coils. Are you interested in woodworking and looking to learn a new skill? In this class, you’ll learn how to turn a beautiful bowl out of wood using a lathe. The process is both rewarding and relaxing, as you take a piece of raw wood and turn it into a functional work of wood art. Under the guidance of our experienced instructor, you’ll start by learning the basics of wood lathe operation and safety. Once you’re comfortable with the equipment, we’ll move on to selecting and preparing the wood for turning. With the wood secured on the lathe, you’ll use a series of specially designed tools to shape the bowl.

This workshop is for all levels (beginners welcome) who wish to develop and sharpen their pottery-throwing skills on the Potter’s Wheel. We will go over the basics of wedging, centering, pulling, and trimming but also cover how to throw bowls and plates. Everyone is guaranteed to leap a pot. And because it isn’t a celebration without a party, Celebration of Trails Month culminates on Saturday, June 28 with a special Hike for the Stars Challenge and a FREE Street Party along Commercial Street in downtown Nevada City, with live music, nature activities, awards, raffles, and more!
