Staged reading of Seminar—a scathing literary comedy by Theresa Rebeck

Nevada City Chamber Wordplay isn’t the only thing that turns vicious in Seminar, Rebeck’s rollicking play about four aspiring novelists and Leonard, an international literary figure. Under his recklessly brilliant and unorthodox instruction, some thrive and others flounder, alliances are made and broken, sex is used as a weapon, and hearts are unmoored. A well-known writer and teacher herself, director Sands Hall was drawn to Rebeck's razor-sharp wit and unflinching examination of power dynamics attached to the teaching of art. “I’ve experienced some brutal workshop moments,” she says, “and the approach Rebeck sends up so hilariously in Seminar is spot on. Artists who’ve studied with a powerful mentor will recognize this kind of teaching and squirm, even as they laugh. But I also love the unexpected places this script goes, and the humanity at its heart.”. Type of Event: Comedy / Improv. Theatre / Film. Event Location: Nevada Theatre. City/Area: Nevada City. Price: 20. Online Ticket: https://sierrastages.thundertix.com/events/243095. Age Range: All Ages. Rebel Without a Cause

Tourism Dean stars in a movie that shocked the United States, with a performance that still electrifies the screen 70 years after his untimely death prior to the film's release. In this archetypal drama of teenage angst and rebellion, three high school students who should lead idyllic lives in their stable, comfortable suburban families explode with a violence and sexuality that their parents cannot understand. This film--which ripped the façade from the post-war American dream to expose the rage of the country's youth--resonates with an energy that has made it a modern classic and a powerful coming-of-age story.
