Cave Spelunking

ASI All needed gear, guides, transportation, and light snacks/drinks provided. Journey to the caves of Angel Camp with us! Venture into the depths and see stalagmites and other fun rock formations—no experience needed. Long-sleeved shirts and long pants are required to enter caves (to protect yourself and the caves. You will get dirty, so wear appropriate clothing. The hike to the cave is 1.25 miles one way, with an elevation gain of +/- 1,000 feet. Light snacks will be offered, and we will meet at the Peak Adventures office to head out in our new Ford Transit Vans! Participants must be 18 years or older or a Sacramento State student. Introduction to Outrigger Canoe - 03

ASI Paddlers are introduced to the basics of paddling technique, canoe mechanics, and extending their skills to various seat positions in the canoe. For example, they may be encouraged to try the “stroke” seat that sets the crew’s pace; they may also develop some basic skills as a steers person, learning to navigate the canoes from point to point. Venture Sailing Clinic - 03

ASI These clinics are for our patrons that have already been certified to rent the Quest, Venture or Holder 20 keelboat and wish to be certified on another boat as well. PLEASE NOTE: these clinics DO NOT include sailing instruction!  Do not enroll unless you feel confident with your basic sailing skills.  The clinics provide an introduction to the boat, rigging and de-rigging instruction. Basic Sailing Keelboat Class - 03

ASI Our Keelboat class will introduce you to two different boats: the Holder 20 and the RS Venture.  Both have a mainsail and jib.  The keelboats require two people to rent at the Aquatic Center (only one person needs to be certified).  Students will be grouped for on-the-water training.  The Holder 20 is perfect for those interested in learning how to sail a larger style of sailboat while the Venture bridges the gap between the Quest and the Holder.  Both keelboats have bench style seating and can comfortably accommodate 4-5 adults. On-the-water skills covered include docking, person overboard recovery, and sail trim. Students will be required to perform a brief swim test. There is no capsize recovery required as the boat is extremely unlikely to capsize. Basic Powerboating Class -03

ASI Course includes instruction on the why and how of safe power boating. Time is split between classroom and practical "hands on" experiences using our fleet of training vessels. This is a basic introductory class where all boating is done at low speed. The classroom will cover the rules of navigation, anatomy of a vessel, theory of small boat engines and propulsion, knots, and seamanship. On the water practical will cover basic maneuvering and handling, docking, and disembarking, and man overboard drills. Basic Sailing Quest Class - 02

ASI The Quest sailboat is taught using a mainsail and a jib and requires two people to rent at the Aquatic Center (only one person need to be certified.)  Students will be paired for on the water training. The Quest is 14 feet long, 6 feet wide and weighs 310 pounds; it is a bit more difficult to balance and recover from a capsize.  Most sailing programs utilize this type of boat; it is suitable for beginners but also for learning more advanced sailing techniques. Hornet Community Bus Tour

Stand Up Paddle Class - 06

ASI Sign up for one of out stand up paddle board (SUP) clinics and see what all the excitement is about. Even if you have little experience paddling, our group SUP courses are designed using ACA level one requirements, which introduce and expose beginning paddlers to the skills, equipment and knowledge that is needed to become a successful paddle boarder. We also challenge more advanced paddlers wanting to improve their techniques on the water. Upon completion of this course, students will be certified to rent our exclusive Stand Up Paddle boards. ASI This course is designed to introduce the beginning paddler to the three most widely used recreational kayaks, correct paddling techniques, navigation and safety on Lake Natoma. The first day instruction will start with sit on top Kayaks, then move to a more technical boat called the surf ski. The second day will incorporate all of the skills in a Viking touring boat. Our ACA certified instructors create a friendly, welcoming environment for all participants regardless of age, ability or skill. Basic Sailing Keelboat Class - 04

ASI Our Keelboat class will introduce you to two different boats: the Holder 20 and the RS Venture.  Both have a mainsail and jib.  The keelboats require two people to rent at the Aquatic Center (only one person needs to be certified).  Students will be grouped for on-the-water training.  The Holder 20 is perfect for those interested in learning how to sail a larger style of sailboat while the Venture bridges the gap between the Quest and the Holder.  Both keelboats have bench style seating and can comfortably accommodate 4-5 adults. On-the-water skills covered include docking, person overboard recovery, and sail trim. Students will be required to perform a brief swim test. There is no capsize recovery required as the boat is extremely unlikely to capsize. Basic Powerboating Class -04

ASI Course includes instruction on the why and how of safe power boating. Time is split between classroom and practical "hands on" experiences using our fleet of training vessels. This is a basic introductory class where all boating is done at low speed. Basic Kayaking Class - 04

ASI This course is designed to introduce the beginning paddler to the three most widely used recreational kayaks, correct paddling techniques, navigation and safety on Lake Natoma. The first day instruction will start with sit on top Kayaks, then move to a more technical boat called the surf ski. The second day will incorporate all of the skills in a Viking touring boat. ASI The Quest sailboat is taught using a mainsail and a jib and requires two people to rent at the Aquatic Center (only one person need to be certified.)  Students will be paired for on the water training. Peak Adventures Wilderness First Aid Course

ASI Peak Adventures Join us for a 16-hour, hands-on Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course designed for Sac State Students, hikers, campers, outdoor leaders, and anyone who loves exploring our local trails and outdoor spaces. Over the course of two days, you will learn how to assess and confidently respond to emergencies when First Responders are hours away. You will walk away with a Wilderness First Aid Certification and CPR/AED/First Aid Certification and the knowledge to save lives and make informed decisions in the backcountry. Day 1 will be a four-hour lecture and practice session from 5 pm to 9 pm held at the Peak Adventures Ropes Course on Sacramento State's Campus, just behind Yosemite Hall. ASI The newest addition to our fleet, the Zest sailboat is taught using a mainsail only and can be sailed by one person (single-handed.)  It is the easiest to rig and sail, and compared to the Quest, it is more stable and easier to recover from a capsize. The Zest is 12 feet long, 5 feet wide and weighs 160 pounds.  It is our best option for practicing basic skills and sailing solo if you do not have a partner.  However, it will easily accommodate an adult and a child or two average-sized adults.
