Community Outreach

At Penn Medicine, our commitment to care extends into the heart of our city’s neighborhoods. In that spirit, we’ve created this calendar to connect the expertise and energy of Penn Medicine employees with local nonprofits hosting events that uplift and support our shared community.
Whether you're passionate about health or enjoy bringing people together, there’s an opportunity for you. We invite all Penn Medicine employees and Penn students to browse and choose an event that speaks to you.
If you sign up for a health-related event, our office will work with you to create a table presentation, complete with health education materials and giveaways. (No clinical background is necessary unless otherwise noted.) Volunteering is easy—and your participation makes a meaningful impact in advancing health equity in the communities we serve.

Chosen 300 Ministries serves meals to homeless throughout the week at 3 locations in the region.  15 volunteer spots have been reserved for the first Monday of every month at the West Philadelphia location for Penn Medicine staff and/or students.  Organize your group or just come by yourself and be a part of the Penn team.  Help is needed! (If you sign up to volunteer, please hold this time on your calendar.  Our team is small, and we need every volunteer who signed up to show up!). CUT Hypertension at Philly Cuts

Every Saturday, a group of Penn medical students are on location at Philly Cuts Barbershop with a blood pressure measurement and health education station.  Two volunteers are needed to assist in this weekly endeavor. Volunteers must be credentialed in the Health System to take blood pressures.  Please sign up with confirmation to attend. Event Purpose: Partnering with babershop owners to help address health disparities facing African-Americans (especially African-American men) by providing blood pressure screenings and health education at a location of convenience. # of Attendees Expected: 20. Gift of Life Dinner Prep

10 volunteers are needed to help prepare a welcoming, nutritious meal for the organ donors and their families who stay as Gift of Life guests at Howie's House. Family and friends are welcome; please sign up using the SignUpGenius link below.  Gregory, who is committed to this leading service for the year, will prepare the menu, bring all food items, and guide the volunteer team in cooking and putting together the meal. Christmas Gift Wrapping Event

Drop in whenever you are available from 9am until noon to wrap presents for the best cause!  Grab a friend, family or coworker. Bring your own scissors, tape, and wrapping paper (as a donation, if you can) - although supplies will be made available!  We will play Christmas music and have coffee and donuts. Thank you for helping to spread joy and the Christmas spirit! Event Purpose: To wrap presents for children who will be attending the West Philadelphia Christmas Party at High School of the Future on Friday, Dec. 20. # of Attendees Expected: 25. Set Up and Wrapping Gifts - West Philadelphia Christmas Party

Sign up to help prepare the space for the Holiday Party beginning at 6pm!  Tables and chairs need to be moved, decorations set up, and last-minute gifts wrapped.  Come enjoy the fun before the fun!  Family and friends - aged 14 years old and older - are welcomed! MLK Day of Service - Helping Hands Project

Volunteers are needed to prepare items for Penn's special neighbors through four different Helping Hands Projects at Houston Hall: Sock Project Volunteers will stuff crew socks with personal items.  The filled socks will be donated to area shelters. Pocketbook Full of Toiletries Volunteers will create constructed bags from t-shirts and fill them with personal items.  The filled pocketbooks will be donated to area shelters. No-Sew Blankets Volunteers will tie material together to form a warm fleece blanket to be distributed to a local nursing home. Love Letters  Everyone deserves messages of love, and this project’s mission is to make that a reality.  Volunteers will create artistic letters sharing a joke, poem, or inspirational quote.  Letters will be distributed to residents of a local nursing home and/or shelter, underscoring the fact that EVERYONE is celebrated! Volunteers are needed to clean, spruce up, and possibly paint designated areas of Benjamin B. Comegys School. Please plan to dress appropriately. Light refreshments and water will be provided. You will be required to complete a waiver of liability before work commences. Volunteers aged 10-15 years old must have a parent/guardian with them at all times.  Please have each member of your team sign up separately with their own email address. The college admissions and financial aid application process can be overwhelming, time-consuming, and confusing!
