The Narcissi (Daffodils)

Join Director of Horticulture Dan Christina as he leads you on a walking tour through the diverse collection of narcissi (daffodils) at the peak of Daffodil Days. Sensory Forest Bathing Walk

Shinrin-Yoku originated in Japan, and literally means "to bathe in the atmosphere of the forest". This practice has been adopted in the West as the term "Forest Bathing". This walk will be different than most walks- a gentle walk, of about a ½ a mile, with guided activities to connect with nature using our different senses. Opportunities for silence/meditation will be woven in with quiet, inquiry based investigation, to engage both the right and left hemispheres of our brains. We will practice being present, to help reduce inner mind chatter and the stress of a busy, modern world. This gentle walk is for all abilities and levels, but please dress with appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and being on a trail in the woods. Meeting Place: North Smithfield. May Free Tree Walk: Island Cemetery

Come along for a pleasant May stroll through Newport’s beautiful Island Cemetery. NTC Living Collections Manager Joe Verstandig will share some of his recent plant discoveries in the cemetery, highlighting some interesting plant features. Lilacs will be a point of discussion, from their history in American cultivation, to how to grow and prune them for best flowering effect.
