Making Lye Soap & Doing Laundry on the Farm
Just because it's 1918 doesn't mean that we don't stay clean!
Roll up your sleeves and let's get to work making soap and washing laundry at the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm at LBJ State Park.
Learn the steps of how to make lye soap using lye and lard and then help with scrubbing clothes on a washboard.
This program will be come and go, from 10 a.m. to around noon, and open to all ages. Be sure to check in at the Visitor Center first then head over to the farm.
Lye soap making will start at 10 a.m. and go until all the lard & lye has been converted into soap. Science!

ARTS Encounters is a free two day cultural event at Museo Benini celebrating creative people, from Texas and around the world, sharing their talent and achievements. Reservations are required. info@beninifoundation.org
August ARTS Encounters will feature Deborah Vollmer Dahlke and David Ladensohn.
Deborah creates distinctive artistic jewelry, sculptures and vessels, often in Argentium® silver metal with its luminous beauty and high purity composition, often incorporating the ancient Korean technique of Keum Boo to meld 24k gold to her silver designs.
David Ladensohn is a world-renowned Da Vinci expert lecturing world wide, He wrote an enchanting and truly unique perspective on the brilliance of Leonardo da Vinci, in his book titled Fly Fishing with Leonardo da Vinci. Copies will be available for signing at the event.
