El Camaron: A Musical History by Anthony Prater

Anthony Prater will present songs from his new EP “El Camaron,” covering an often overlooked event in local history. Through his new album, Prater invites listeners to explore the circumstances surrounding the case of Clemente Apolinar, the last man hanged at the old Bexar County Jail on Camaron Street in 1923. His work explores the misconceptions surrounding Apolinar and the case, including racial injustice and the social climate of the times, the damage that familial/community silence and stigma can do to the historical narrative, and the role musical tradition plays in documenting events in our history.

Discovering Poetry Fun with San Antonio Poets Association

To celebrate National Poetery Month the San Antonio Poets Association (SAPA) will host Discovering Poetry Fun at the Tobin Library on April 1st from 1 pm to 5 pm.There will be five poetry stations.
The first station is call Animal Acrostic Poems especially for children.
The second station will be Easy Rhyming with a simple lesson on rhyming to try.
The third station is Haiku Puzzles in which examples of easy haiku poems to write will be provided.
The fourth station is Painting Words (Ekphrastic Poetry) where one describes a picture with a personal connection to the painting.
The fifth station is called Free Verse where anyone can try their hand at writing a poem.
