Lavender Graduation

Lavender graduation provides an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of our LGBTQIA+ graduates and to celebrate their contributions to our campus in the areas of community service, leadership, and academic success. This is especially important for those graduates who are not openly themselves in all aspects of their lives. This celebration allows them to be acknowledged wholly without erasure which may not be possible for them at general commencement. Lavender graduation makes LGBTQIA+ folks more visible to the community at large and promotes college-going culture for future generations of LGBTQIA students who may not otherwise see themselves as strong candidates for higher education. Highlighting their accomplishments can create a sense of belonging amongst future graduates who attend the graduation in support of their friends. Campus Location: Student Community Center. Location of Event: UC Davis Campus. Contact Email: dmroberts@ucdavis.edu. Event Type: Ceremonies. Presented by: LGBTQIA Resource Center. Thursday, June 6, 2019, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Middle Eastern and South Asian Community Graduation

The ME/SA Community Graduation as a culturally oriented graduation allows Middle Eastern and South Asian identified students to celebrate their academic success at UC Davis with their family and friends. By providing this more intimate graduation, we also provide a space that recognizes the struggles and hardship that students that students may have endured being part of a community that is often racially and/or religiously marginalized and encouraging to them to treasure/value their cultures and histories. In the past, this has been presented in the form of keynote/faculty/alumni speakers as well as allowing space for each graduating student to speak and share their UC Davis experience.
