Extension Forest fires are a fact of life in the Inland Northwest. While they can be beneficial to some ecological systems, forest fires near homes located on forested lands (the "wildland urban interface") can have terrible consequences on life and property. Forest fires are not always easy to stop. But you can take action to reduce the risk of damage to your home from wildfire. Living with Fire—Forest Management and Home Preparation will help forest homeowners modify their houses and landscapes to make them less likely to burn and easier for firefighters to access. Sara Ashiglar comes with a degree in forest management from Oregon State University and a master's in forest biology from the State University of New York-Environmental Science and Forestry.
