Kootenai Horticultural Series - Living with Fire: Forest Management & Home Preparation

Extension Forest fires are a fact of life in the Inland Northwest. While they can be beneficial to some ecological systems, forest fires near homes located on forested lands (the "wildland urban interface") can have terrible consequences on life and property. Forest fires are not always easy to stop. But you can take action to reduce the risk of damage to your home from wildfire. Living with Fire—Forest Management and Home Preparation will help forest homeowners modify their houses and landscapes to make them less likely to burn and easier for firefighters to access. Sara Ashiglar comes with a degree in forest management from Oregon State University and a master's in forest biology from the State University of New York-Environmental Science and Forestry. She has managed lands for the Forest Service, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Bureau of Land Management for more than 20 years as a silviculture forester and is excited to have recently joined the University of Idaho Extension Forestry team.  Sara… Extension Event Type: Event.
