The Night Witches
The Night Witches of the 588th Night Bomber Regiment flew fragile aircraft made of canvas and wood, dropping bombs on German forces every fifteen minutes to keep the enemy sleepless. Constantly reassigned, mechanics became navigators, navigators became pilots, and pilots rose to command.
Nina and Vera have just completed their navigator training and now stand on the edge of their first combat mission. As they battle their nerves, the women around them try—some more effectively than others—to lift their spirits. But when the moment arrives, they must take to the sky.
Tonight, however, is unlike any night they’ve faced. The enemy has unleashed a new tactic, catching them entirely off guard. Through movement, song, and lyrical dialogue, we follow these courageous women through one pivotal, harrowing evening of the war.
