Rakish

Arts & Culture With deep roots in Celtic and Americana traditions, contemporary folk duo Rakish keeps an ear skyward toward the future. Staying true to their namesake, the duo consists of Appalachian-raised Scottish fiddle champ Maura Shawn Scanlin, who amplifies old-time ballads with evocative songwriting and clawhammer banjo, alongside literary guitarist Conor Hearn, who deftly combines bass and rhythm for a uniquely powerful sound. With recent performances at the Library of Congress and Folk Alliance International, the “naturally nimble” pair exudes a “genuinely infectious sense of delight, heart, and jubilation” (Strings Magazine). These dynamos refuse to be pigeonholed, thriving in the in-between. Come experience Rakish at The Monarch and refresh your own deep well of traditions. Arts & Culture Categories: Entertainment. Rocky Mountain Choreography Festival Presents: The Black Bow

Arts & Culture The Black Bow: a poetic narration of a contemporary creation. Symbolic to the memories we hold in the back of our mind, this show, in a novelistic way, will be an exploration of my interpretation of the five stages of grief. The emotions of each stage of grief soon to be tangibly reconciled with words compiled over the years. I have filled so many pages with poetry. Now, I soon fill the stage with choreography stemming from these words I believe to be pertinent and relatable. A story from long ago…about letting go, artistically and metaphorically to be remembered as “The Black Bow.” Ages 3+ are welcome. No babes in arms. Arts & Culture Categories: * PERFORMING ARTS.
