LOS TEXMANIACS WITH MAKING MOVIES
Arts & Culture
Los Texmaniacs bring the accordion-driven soul of the Texas-Mexico borderlands to Ogden Amphitheater this summer, joined by Kansas City’s Making Movies for a Wednesday night of música that stretches from San Antonio dance halls to Havana streets.
Picture a July evening downtown. The sun dips behind the mountains, street food fills the air, and the unmistakable squeeze of a button accordion opens up a song your abuela hummed in the kitchen. That’s the world Los Texmaniacs create—a sound rooted in the conjunto tradition, where polkas meet blues and cumbias slide into rock and roll. Founded by bajo sexto master Max Baca, the band has spent three decades keeping this music alive while pushing it somewhere new. Their 2010 Grammy win for Best Tejano Album announced them to the world, and Baca’s work across 11 Grammy-winning projects speaks to a musician who lives where tradition and innovation meet.

Each July, on the National Day of the American Cowboy, cowboys and cowgirls from across the United States are honored for their contributions to promoting and preserving the cowboy way of life. Ogden Pioneer Days continues that tradition by recognizing Utahns from every county who, day by day, honor their western heritages. The honorees are invited into the arena at the start of the rodeo and applauded by the thousands who are at Spencer Fox Eccles Pioneer Stadium, one of the top large outdoor rodeos in the PRCA and WPRA.

PRCA Rodeo: Pioneer Day Celebration

Each year, during the week of July 24, downtown Ogden comes alive with not only the spirit of Utah’s unique pioneer heritage, but the spark of future prosperity. STEEP CANYON RANGERS WITH DELLA MAE
Arts & Culture
Steep Canyon Rangers return to Ogden with Della Mae for a midsummer evening of bluegrass at the Amphitheater. Two bands. Fiddles, banjos, mandolin. Harmonies tight enough to carry across an open field.
STEEP CANYON RANGERS OGDEN: A BLUEGRASS EVENING WORTH YOUR MONDAY
You might know Steep Canyon Rangers as Steve Martin’s bluegrass band. That’s fair. They’ve shared stages with him at Carnegie Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, Bonnaroo, and Austin City Limits. They’ve backed him on albums featuring Paul McCartney and the Dixie Chicks. But spend five minutes with their own catalog and you’ll hear something deeper: a Grammy-winning band with 25 years of Appalachian grit, literary songwriting, and voices that trade lines like old friends finishing each other’s sentences.
