So you want to work with animals? Spend a day with our wildlife specialist to get a taste of the future. Enjoy all the fun of camp along with real-world experience in this hands-on animal adventure. Try your hand at radio-tracking, food preparation and race your fellow campers in tying a proper falconer’s knot. There are creatures hiding all over the Ogden Nature Center, and not all of them are real! Some are painted on the trees, stumps, and other spots near the bird mews and along Habitat Trail. Pick up a scavenger hunt sheet from the Visitor Center, hit the trails and see how many you can find. Upload a photo of one to social media and tag #ogdennatureccenter for entry in our Sept. 6 prize drawing. Scavenger hunt sheets will be available at the Visitor Services desk for $1/sheet. Bugs, birds, even some mammals and seeds have wings! We'll sing, play, and create a fun craft as we explore the world of Things with Wings in this hourlong program.
Our preschool programs are designed for 3 - 5 year old children. Preschool admission price of $10 for members and $12 for non-member includes 1 child and 1 adult. Preschool groups of 5 or more children are $8 for a child/adult pair; teachers/aides are free with participating class. General admission fees will apply to any additional family members in attendance. A non-refundable deposit of 50% must be paid in advance to pre-register groups of 5 children or more. Herbal Greens Natural Scarf-dyeing workshop
Community Classes in Nature
Learn to use familiar herbs to create a beautiful silk scarf in green shades. This session for people 16 and older is taught by local artist Roxanne Vigos, of Sago Adornment. Participants will learn to mordant silk with alum and bundle-dye a silk scarf safely using an iron modifier. The result is a lovely creation in shades of green with dyes made from familiar plants. Drumming in Nature
Community Classes in Nature
Join performance artist Deja Mitchell against the beautiful backdrop of Ogden Nature Center as she teaches the basics of African drumming. This class is designed to improve the health, wellbeing, and socialization of people 55 and older. Participants will learn the basics of djembe drum technique. The class series culminates in a performance for friends and family. No prior experience is needed. Participants do not need to bring anything with them, but should dress comfortably to allow free movement. Classes are progressive, so attending every class is recommended. Cellphone Photography Workshop
