Trip Planning

Great adventures start with smart planning. Whether you're prepping for a weekend hike, a multi-day backpacking trip, or your first group expedition, this 2-hour clinic will give you the tools and strategies to plan outdoor adventures that are safe, efficient, and unforgettable. This interactive clinic is ideal for beginners, aspiring adventurers, or anyone looking to take the stress out of trip logistics. Clinic participants will leave the clinic with an understanding of the following: - How to choose a destination based on group goals, skill level, and season - Building a realistic itinerary and estimating travel times - Creating gear lists based on terrain and conditions - Food and water planning for day and multi-day trips - Understanding permits, land regulations, and Leave No Trace ethics-Identifying potential hazards and planning for contingencies-Weather considerations and emergency planning. Bike Maintenance and Repair

Learn to fix your bike, anywhere, anytime. Whether you're a daily commuter, weekend trail rider, or just dusting off your old bike, this fast-paced, hands-on clinic will give you the skills you need to handle common bike issues and keep your ride smooth and safe. In just two hours, our clinic instructors will walk you through essential maintenance techniques and quick roadside repairs—so you can ride with confidence and independence. Clinic participants will leave the clinic with an understanding of the following: - Know your bike: frames, components, and how they work together - How to do a quick pre-ride safety check -Maintenance essentials such as cleaning and lubricating your chain, adjusting brakes and gears, and checking and inflating tires properly -Roadside repairs such as fixing a flat tire, what to carry in a basic repair kit, and diagnosing and fixing common problems on the go. Our Backcountry Navigation Clinic is a hands-on, field-based course designed to give you the skills and confidence to travel safely and independently in remote terrain. Whether you're looking to take a backpacking course with OA in the future or take your friends on their first backcountry trip, this clinic will sharpen your map-and-compass skills and introduce essential techniques for navigating without digital devices. Clinic participants will leave the clinic with an understanding of the following: - Reading and interpreting topographic maps - Understanding contour lines, terrain features, and map scales - How to read and use a compass, plot bearings, and triangulate your position - Route planning for off-trail travel, including integrating GPS and digital tools responsibly- How to avoid getting lost—and what to do if you are.
