Urine oxygen tension (PuO2) provides a promising, noninvasive surrogate of renal medullary oxygenation; however, measurements obtained from the distal urinary catheter are affected by urine transit delay and catheter-wall oxygen diffusion. This knowledge gap limits our ability to therapeutically target mechanotransduction in diseases associated with altered tissue mechanics, including fibrosis, thrombosis, and cancer metastasis.
