salt 17: Adama Delphine Fawundu

This exhibition is on view September 13, 2025–June 14, 2026. Visit umfa.utah.edu for Museum hours. Adama Delphine Fawundu is a New York-based artist of Mende, Krim, Bamileke, and Bubi descent. Her practice embodies ancestral memory across space and time, reconnecting places, objects, plants, animals, and spirits of the global African diaspora. The works in this exhibition were made with a process that Fawundu calls “kpoto patchwok,” a combination of the Mende word for gathering fruits and nuts for communal nourishment (kpoto) and the Krio word for piecing together textiles (patchwok). By drawing together materials from Congo, Brazil, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria, Malta, Cuba, and the United States, Fawundu stitches together a collective history of the African diaspora that imagines a more interconnected future. Her work is displayed in conversation with objects from the UMFA’s African art collection, which were selected by the artist for their resonance with her practice. Dig a little deeper, and you’ll discover two stories as unique and vibrant as the music they create. Together, they represent two brilliant threads of the Cuban musical tapestry and when they meet, sparks fly. Department of Theatre presents "The School for Scandal" [U Arts Pass Event]

Theatre By Richard Brinsley Sheridan Director Sarah Shippobotham In a world dominated by social media and social expectations, it is interesting to realize that reputations have been made and ruined by gossip since centuries before technology came into being. Indeed, in some eras, gossip and wit were almost considered national sports, and verbal sparring could be almost as brutal as today's MMA cage fighting! This play, set in the late 18th century, follows a group of socialites who plot to arrange the marriages they want, regardless of other people's feelings. It is a fascinating look at social expectations and how they can be exploded and manipulated by all for gain. Yet kindness, heart, and hope still can win out. Event Categories: Theatre. U Arts Pass. Campus Locations: Meldrum Theatre (FLD H). Cost: https://theatre.utah.edu/this-season/tickets-parking. Parking is available in the adjacent lots; may require payment. Campus Wide Event: Yes. Friday, February 13, 2026, 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM.

Schnitzer and His Family Foundation— offers a once in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in a printing circle led by artist Marie Watt. This free opening celebration is concurrent with this month’s Third Saturday for Families workshop, Tell Your Story in Art. Take this spectacular opportunity to create printmaking plates and prints that will be integrated into future works by artist Marie Watt. Multimedia artist Marie Watt is a storyteller. As a member of the Seneca Nation with German-Scots ancestry, her stories draw from Native and non-Native traditions: Greco-Roman myth, pop music and Pop art, Indigenous oral narratives, Star Wars, and Star Trek. Over the course of her career, Watt has told her stories through prints. salt 17: Adama Delphine Fawundu

Emmet Cohen Presents: Miles and Coltrane at 100 [U Arts Pass Event]

What are we reaching for? Where does the music take us? Guided by the spirit of the infinite, Cohen continues the journey set forth by the architects of jazz — seeking deeper truths through sound. A champion of musical community, Cohen believes in jazz as a living, evolving conversation — one that unites people across time and place. Possessing a fluid technique, innovative tonal palette, and extensive repertoire, Cohen plays with the passion of an artist fully devoted to his medium. He has performed at the Village Vanguard, the Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Birdland, Jazz Standard, London’s Ronnie Scott’s, Jazzhaus Montmartre in Copenhagen, Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall, the Cotton Club in Tokyo, and the Kennedy Center.
