Lessons from Recently Published Book Authors, with tea and treats!
Please join us for the next College of Humanities Research Event, “Lessons from Recently Published Book Authors, with tea and treats!” In recent years, College of Humanities faculty have published a record number of acclaimed academic books.
This afternoon gathering will celebrate their work and make the publishing process more visible. It will take place on Friday, October 23rd from 3-4:30 pm in LNCO 2110. Presenting authors include: Leandra Hernández, Ashton Lazarus, Joe Metz, Melissa Parks, Susie Porter, Jeremy Rosen, Natalie Stillman-Webb, and Thomas Swenson.

"The People of Yorktown in Revolutionary Times" the O. Meredith Wilson Lecture from Kathleen DuVal
Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Kathleen DuVal will present a public lecture entitled “The People of Yorktown in Revolutionary Times.”
Yorktown, Virginia, holds a familiar place in the history of the American Revolution: In the Siege of Yorktown in the fall of 1781, American and French forces helped to end the Revolutionary War and win American independence. Yet the famous siege is only part of Yorktown’s involvement in the Revolution. Its townspeople participated in the boycotts and protests from the beginning, and repeated invasions endangered the town and its people. Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Kathleen DuVal explores what the Revolution was like for the people of Yorktown—men and women, wealthy and poor, free and enslaved—and how their experiences can help us craft a more complete history of how people lived through the Revolution and what it meant to them.

America250 Student Symposium
A symposium featuring original student research on the nation’s founding by college students from across Utah. Students from the University of Utah, BYU, Utah Valley University, and Utah State University will spend the summer and fall working with History faculty at their respective universities on original research papers that they will present at this symposium.

La China Poblana: Women’s Stories Stitched, Worn & Remembered in the Borderlands
The American West Center is proud to co-sponsor this curated exhibit by Professor Romeo Garcia. Explore the rich and layered history of La China Poblana through dress, performance, memory, and community storytelling. This exhibition brings together historic China Poblana ensembles, recorded cultural performances, and stories rooted in the U.S.–Mexico borderlands—examining how clothing can become an archive of identity, tradition, migration, and belonging. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will also be invited to take part in workshops and community conversations that help build a growing, living archive of dresses, stories, and memories.
Free and open to the public. Exhibit open from September 1 - December 31, 2026.
