And Still We Rise: Juneteenth Panel Discussion
Juneteenth is a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865. This year, the University of Utah will observe Juneteenth by hosting an educational event, "And Still We Rise: Juneteenth Panel Discussion." The event will honor the shared history and culture of the holiday and its relevance to all. The discussion will feature four distinguished panelists: Mrs. Betty Sawyer, President Ogden Branch NAACP, Executive Director Project Success Coalition , Dr. William A. Smith, Chief Executive Administrator, Strategic Initiatives & Mental Health Justice , Mr. Robert Burch, Executive Director Sema Hadithi African American Heritage & Culture Foundation , Ms. Cynthia M. Festival of Cultures
Celebrate the dynamic stories, traditions, and futures of the University of Utah’s diverse communities. The Festival of Cultures, Rooted & Rising, is the first event of its kind and, highlights how cultural heritage grounds us while fueling forward movement- through art, music, dance, storytelling, and shared learning. This festival centers cultural education, performances, and other culture and community focused programming as a vibrant, living process where all are invited to learn, connect, and grow.
