Econ Week: Who Gets Hired in the Age of AI? The Economics of Hiring—and How Students Can Compete

Hiring is an economic problem: employers cannot observe what candidates can actually do, so they rely on signals—degrees, résumés, referrals, and interviews. AI is rewiring those signals on both sides of the market. This panel explores why hiring is so hard for firms, examines how AI is changing the ways employers identify talent, and explains how students can credibly signal their skills when a polished application no longer proves very much.
