How To ProtoSpace: Fall Fest Open House

Week 2: Come See What We're Made Of No formal workshop this week, instead, ProtoSpace is throwing open its doors for Fall Fest, the library's celebration of everything we offer. Swing by, poke around, and get a hands-on look at the tools and spaces waiting for you all semester. Come see our 3D printers turning digital designs into physical objects, watch our 3D scanners capture real-world objects into editable models, and check out the sewing machines ready for everything from quick repairs to full creative projects. And this year, we're excited to unveil the newest addition to ProtoSpace: our brand-new electronic music production studio, launching this fall. Whether you're producing your first track or refining your sound, it's a space built to help you make noise. Whatever you're into: design, fabrication, fashion, sound, we have you covered. Stop by during Fall Fest, meet the people who run the space, and find out how ProtoSpace can be part of your semester. No registration, no experience needed, just curi… Event Categories: Workshops & Training. Campus Locations: Marriott Library - J. Willard (M LIB). Room Name/Number: ProtoSpace, Level 1. Cost: Free. How To ProtoSpace: 3D Printing

Week 3: Roll for Initiative Ever wanted to turn an idea into something you can actually hold? This week's How To ProtoSpace is all about 3D printing. We'll walk you through how to start printing your own designs in the space. And because we like a little whimsy: we've built a giant dice tower, and if you roll a natural 20 on it, you'll walk away with a 3D-printed D&D dice tower of your own. Bragging rights and loot, all in one roll. Whether you're a tabletop veteran, a maker in training, or just curious what all the buzzing and whirring is about, come learn what our printers can do and leave knowing how to make something yourself. Equipment provided, no experience needed. May the dice be ever in your favor. Event Categories: Workshops & Training. Campus Locations: Marriott Library - J. Willard (M LIB). How To ProtoSpace: Music Production with Ableton

Week 4: Press Record This week we're plugging in and making sound. We'll introduce Ableton Live, the software at the heart of our music studio, and show you how it turns loops, samples, and ideas into full tracks. Then we'll get hands-on with the Ableton Push 3, a tactile instrument that lets you play, sequence, and produce without staring at a screen the whole time. Come tap out a beat, build a melody, and hear how quickly a track comes together. And Ableton is just the front door. Our music studio is stocked for wherever your sound wants to go: semi-modular synths from Moog, a full Eurorack modular system, drum machines, MIDI controllers, and a mixing setup to tie it all together. Whether you want to produce clean electronic tracks in software or patch cables and chase strange noises on hardware, there's a seat here for you. No background in music production required, just bring your ears and your curiosity. This is the first stop in our music offerings this semester, and a great way to find out what's poss… Event Categories: Workshops & Training. Campus Locations: Marriott Library - J. Willard (M LIB).
