Undergraduate Research Scholar Designation (URSD) EARLY Deadline for Spring 2026

The Undergraduate Research Scholar Designation (URSD) recognizes a student’s commitment to their development as a researcher during their undergraduate career. The URSD appears in the awards section of the transcripts of graduating students. URSD awardees receive a white research cord from the Office of Undergraduate Research to wear at convocation and commencement.  Apply the Semester you Graduate!  If you are graduating spring semester and would like your name in the commence program, apply by February 10.  Otherwise, you have until the last day of the semester to apply for spring semester.   For more info:  https://our.utah.edu/undergraduate-research-scholar-designation/. Research Tour - Neurobiology: Douglass Lab and Maricq Lab

The research tour of the Douglass Lab and Maricq Lab will start in the first floor lobby of the Biomedical Polymers Research Building (BPRB).  The Douglass Lab explores the functional anatomy of neuromodulatory circuits and the Maricq  Lab studies the molecular mechanisms that underlie learning, memory and behavior. OUR Education Series: Writing a Compelling Cover Letter or Personal Statement

In this workshop we will discuss the differences and purpose of both cover letters and personal statements. We will focus on what they are, how to format and tailor them to different audiences, and best practices for what to include. OUR Education Series: Writing in STEM

Writing in the STEM fields is central to the sharing and disseminating information. All scientists and engineers write in their careers, whether they are in academic positions or working in industry. This session will provide insight into the various types of writing in STEM disciplines: what forms writing takes and what the expectations for fulfilling them well are. Students should come away with a better understanding of the role of writing in their field and what constitutes quality writing. Monthly Deadline to Apply for OUR Travel & Small Grants

The Office of Undergraduate Research provides funding opportunities for students whose research requires travel or other support.   When to Apply: Grants are considered monthly. Travel Grant and Small Grant applications are reviewed and applicants are notified of the outcome by the 7th day of every month. This means all applications (including the faculty mentor portion) must be submitted no later than the last day of the previous month. Monson Essay Prize Deadline

The Charles H. Monson Essay Prize honors Charles H. Monson Jr. a distinguished member of the University Philosophy Department from 1958 to 1974. Professor Monson earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Utah and received his Ph.D. from Cornell University. During his years at the University, he served as chair of the Philosophy Department and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. He received the University’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 1970. In his honor, an annual prize is awarded to an undergraduate who writes an outstanding paper on a subject having to do with "Social Change" (the application includes submission of an original piece of work that is 10-15 pages in length). Valadi N. Venkatesan Research Award Deadline

The Valadi N. Venkatesan Research Award recognizes undergraduate researchers who demonstrate performance of research focused on or substantially involving real-world problems. This award is made possible thanks to the generous donation of Dr. Valadi N. Research Tour - STARS Lab

This research tour of the STARS Lab will take place in room 509 of the William C. Browning Building (WBB).  The STARS Lab studies how materials behave under extreme conditions relevant to aerospace, space exploration, and defense. Using high-speed impact testing and advanced characterization techniques, they explore how processing affects material structure and performance.
