Early Exploration Scholars Research Tour - Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute

The Early Exploration Scholars Program fosters student connections with faculty mentors. Early Exploration Scholars learn about research opportunities at the University of Utah and receive a $250 scholarship to explore connecting with prospective faculty mentors surrounding research.  The program provides opportunities to grow research interests early on in an academic journey. This tour will take place on the third floor of WEB.  The Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute is a permanent research institute at the University of Utah that focuses on the development of new scientific computing and visualization techniques, tools, and systems with primary applications to biomedical engineering. Monthly Deadline to Apply for OUR Travel & Small Grants

The Office of Undergraduate Research provides funding opportunities for students whose research requires travel or other support.   When to Apply: Grants are considered monthly. Travel Grant and Small Grant applications are reviewed and applicants are notified of the outcome by the 7th day of every month. This means all applications (including the faculty mentor portion) must be submitted no later than the last day of the previous month. Research on Capitol Hill (ROCH) Application Deadline

The Office of the Vice President for Research, the Office of Government Relations and the Office of Undergraduate Research select students each year to exhibit their work via posters to Utah State legislators. This tour in 1333 MEK will focus on wearable robotic solutions that leverage mechanism design and modern computational methods. This laboratory aspires to make a positive impact on daily living of individuals with motor impairments through increased independence and social inclusion. Francis Family Scholarship Application Deadline

The John A. and Irene F. Francis Endowment Fund was established by John A. Francis in memory of his wife, Irene F. Francis, and to acknowledge the work of his son, John G. Francis, professor of political science at the University of Utah. The Francis Endowment Fund recognizes outstanding undergraduate researchers in the arts, social sciences, and the humanities. The availability of this program and number of scholarships offered may vary from year to year, depending on funding. Each Fall, students in their second semester of UROP or recently completed 2 semesters of UROP are invited to apply for a $1200 scholarship to support a third semester of research with the same faculty mentor during the following Spring semester. (Seniors graduating in the spring semester are also eligible to apply. Please note, priority will be given to students who have completed 2 semesters of UROP). Undergraduate Research Scholar Designation (URSD) Deadline for Fall 2025

The Undergraduate Research Scholar Designation (URSD) recognizes a student’s commitment to their development as a researcher during their undergraduate career. The URSD appears in the awards section of the transcripts of graduating students.
