The Office of Undergraduate Research provides funding opportunities for students whose research requires travel or other support.   When to Apply: Grants are considered monthly. Travel Grant and Small Grant applications are reviewed and applicants are notified of the outcome by the 7th day of every month. This means all applications (including the faculty mentor portion) must be submitted no later than the last day of the previous month. SPUR is a nationally competitive opportunity that provides undergraduate students with an intensive 10-week summer research experience under the mentorship of a University of Utah faculty member. Francis Family Scholarship Application Deadline

The John A. and Irene F. Francis Endowment Fund was established by John A. Francis in memory of his wife, Irene F. Francis, and to acknowledge the work of his son, John G. Francis, professor of political science at the University of Utah. The Francis Endowment Fund recognizes outstanding undergraduate researchers in the arts, social sciences, and the humanities. The availability of this program and number of scholarships offered may vary from year to year, depending on funding. Each Fall, students in their second semester of UROP or recently completed 2 semesters of UROP are invited to apply for a $1200 scholarship to support a third semester of research with the same faculty mentor during the following Spring semester. Undergraduate Research Scholar Designation (URSD) Deadline for Fall 2026

The Undergraduate Research Scholar Designation (URSD) recognizes a student’s commitment to their development as a researcher during their undergraduate career. The URSD appears in the awards section of the transcripts of graduating students. URSD awardees receive a white research cord from the Office of Undergraduate Research to wear at convocation and commencement.  Apply the Semester you Graduate!  Click below for more info and to apply.
