Funding Fridays
Office of Undergraduate Research's Funding Fridays are a weekly workshop for undergraduate researchers applying for OUR funding (UROP, SPUR, Travel & Small Grants and other opportunities). This is a drop-in and work session space for students to get information about applying for opportunities.
Drop in every Friday between 1:00-3:00 pm via Zoom or in person at the Sill Center, room 005.

Monthly Deadline to Apply for OUR Travel & Small Grants
The Office of Undergraduate Research provides funding opportunities for students whose research requires travel or other support.
When to Apply: Grants are considered monthly. Travel Grant and Small Grant applications are reviewed and applicants are notified of the outcome by the 7th day of every month. This means all applications (including the faculty mentor portion) must be submitted no later than the last day of the previous month. Grants are for future expenses only (applications submitted in the same month as the travel will not be accepted).

Francis Family Scholarship Application Deadline
The John A. and Irene F. Francis Endowment Fund was established by John A. Francis in memory of his wife, Irene F. Francis, and to acknowledge the work of his son, John G. Francis, professor of political science at the University of Utah. The Francis Endowment Fund recognizes outstanding undergraduate researchers in the arts, social sciences, and the humanities.
The availability of this program and number of scholarships offered may vary from year to year, depending on funding. Each Fall, students in their second semester of UROP or recently completed 2 semesters of UROP are invited to apply for a $1200 scholarship to support a third semester of research with the same faculty mentor during the following Spring semester. (Seniors graduating in the spring semester are also eligible to apply. Please note, priority will be given to students who have completed 2 semesters of UROP). The student and mentor are recognized at the annual Undergraduate Research Awards Ceremony.

Parent Fund Scholarship Application Deadline
The Parent Fund is sustained by parents and supports student-centered programs and initiatives. The Parent Fund plays an integral role in the University of Utah’s ability to provide students with exceptional opportunities inside and outside the classroom.
The availability of this program and number of scholarships offered may vary from year to year, depending on funding. IRB Lab
The IRB Lab is a partnership with the University of Utah Institutional Review Board. The IRB Lab is a bimonthly open work session space for students to receive peer-mentoring and staff support when applying for Institutional Review Board approval.
Spring Semester 2025 IRB Labs will take place every other Wednesday from 1:00-2:30 pm in the 2130N Marriott Library or via Zoom. Click below link to register for the Zoom.

Undergraduate Research Scholar Designation (URSD) Deadline for Fall 2025
The Undergraduate Research Scholar Designation (URSD) recognizes a student’s commitment to their development as a researcher during their undergraduate career. The URSD appears in the awards section of the transcripts of graduating students. URSD awardees receive a white research cord from the Office of Undergraduate Research to wear at convocation and commencement. Apply the Semester you Graduate!

Summer Program for Undergraduate Research 2026 (SPUR) - Student deadline to Apply!
SPUR is a nationally competitive opportunity that provides undergraduate students with an intensive 10-week summer research experience under the mentorship of a University of Utah faculty member. The program provides opportunities to gain research experience in a variety of disciplines.

OUR Education Series - Your Line of Inquiry from Lived Experience: Researching Blacks in Ballet
As a former professional Black ballet dancer who rarely saw representation of artists like herself in ballet documentation, Professor Deans wanted more details about the legacy she was part of. This presentation will share some of her discoveries, the methods she used to find the information, and the personal growth she experienced while researching something so personal.

Research Tour - Neurobiology: Douglass Lab and Maricq Lab
The research tour of the Douglass Lab and Maricq Lab will start in the first floor lobby of the Biomedical Polymers Research Building (BPRB). The Douglass Lab explores the functional anatomy of neuromodulatory circuits and the Maricq Lab studies the molecular mechanisms that underlie learning, memory and behavior.
