Community Reads: Welcome Winter with Zines!
The Community Reads Team is excited to welcome you back to campus for Winter Quarter, and to return to our theme for this school year: Zines and Movements! We will continue hosting drop-in events each month for all things zines, which will involve zine creation, sharing, learning, and reading. Throughout the year, we will explore the relationship between social justice movements and zines, highlighting how zines can be used as a medium for communication, advocacy, and artistry. As always, all students, staff, and faculty are invited to join us! Our first event of the quarter will be on Thursday, January 15 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Campus Library, room LB1-205. Using Hypothes.is in Canvas
Learning & Teaching Collaborative
The social annotation tool Hypothes.is is integrated into Canvas. Hypothes.is allows students to take notes in the margins of digital texts, read and add on to their peers’ notes, and respond to discussion questions right on top of the document being discussed. Participants will see the student annotations in the Canvas SpeedGrader like how discussion posts are seen. This makes grading the work easier for faculty while maintaining the rich features found in Hypothes.is.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to effectively utilize the social annotation tool Hypothes.is to enhance student engagement and collaboration within Canvas. , Participants will gain knowledge of how to leverage Hypothes.is to facilitate meaningful discussions and provide feedback on student work within the Canvas SpeedGrader.

Creating Accessible Canvas Courses

This workshop addresses basic accessibility practices in Canvas. Participants will learn about the principles of universal design and why accessibility is important for all students.
