Interactive Videos with Optional Grading (H5P)

Are you interested in learning more about how you can integrate interactive video/audio activities into your language teaching practice?  The LLC is excited to announce that you can now make any large media file on our streaming server interactive (and gradable) with H5P on Moodle. H5P is a suite of tools and activities for eLearning that is optimized for accessibility and useability, including the popular and unique Interactive Video tool [https://hSp.org/].  One of the most powerful tools in the suite, the interactive video builder allows you to integrate quiz interactions, overlay content (e.g. images and text), and powerful adaptivity interactions. Quiz elements in an H5P video activity are automatically graded and added to the Moodle gradebook.  In this online workshop you will learn how to create an activity and then practice building your own. The tool is quick to learn and fun to use.  This opportunity is open to all eligible persons regardless of race, sex or other identity. Event interval: Single day event. Campus room: Online only | Register for Zoom Link. Accessibility Contact: llc@uw.edu. Event Types: Workshops. Event sponsors: This event is sponsored by the UW Language Learning Center (LLC). Target Audience: Language instructors and graduate students who are studying language teaching. Thursday, April 16, 2026, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM. Zoom|Register for Zoom Link.

Spring Language Pedagogy Circle, Session 1: New Directions in Language Learning Programs During Resource-Challenged Times

Post-secondary language education in the U.S. is facing its most critical period since the 1990s. With the elimination of Title VI funding and other systemic pressures, less-commonly taught language programs in particular face significant risk. We must leverage new methods and tools to improve student support, boost accessibility, and ensure both the sustainability of current programs and the growth of new ones.  The LPC Spring 2026 meeting will feature two vital sessions; this particular session is Session 1. Session 1: Friday, April 17th (REECAS NW Conference, UW Seattle Campus): A group panel featuring language pedagogists and policy researchers representing multiple institutions, followed by open discussion. Advance registration is required for attendance at this session (free for UW faculty and students). Presenters: Guntis Šmidchens (UW) | Piibi-Kai Kivik (Indiana U, Language Program Coordinator, Teaching across language and area studies courses) | Russell Hugo (UW) | Robert Elliot (U of Oregon,… Event interval: Single day event.
