Genomics Joint Seminar: Catherine Nelson - Software Engineering Best Practices for Data Science
Catherine Nelson is the author of “Software Engineering for Data Scientists” a guide for data scientists who want to level up their coding skills, published by O’Reilly in May 2024 and “Building Machine Learning Pipelines” published by O’Reilly in 2020.
Why SWE best practices matter in data science, what we mean when we talk about "good" code, how to make code readable, how to make code robust and reproducible, how to structure a project effectively, how to share code so other people can use it, and how automating workflows can be useful. Will also look at how this fits with AI coding tools.
