Talk title: Retention and HIV Screening and Prevention in Substance Use Treatment: Findings from the Rural Opioid Initiative
Dr. Kaitlin Zinsli is in her second year of the Training in Enhancing Structural Solutions in Addictions (TESSA) T32 Training Program as a Postdoctoral Scholar Fellow. She earned her PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Washington in 2024. Her recent research interests include understanding initiation and retention in treatment with medications for opioid use disorder and preventing HIV and other harms related to substance use among people who use drugs.

First-of-its kind WA legislation (RCW 69.78) requires UW and UW researchers to take specific steps to improve representation in clinical trials. Beginning Jan 1, 2026, most new clinical trials at UW will be required to submit a Diversity Supplement to the IRB which includes a recruitment strategy for underrepresented groups and community engagement standards. Additionally, researchers will need to provide translation and interpreter services and an e-consent options, as well as track enrollment metrics. The Diversity in Clinical Trials Iniative has stood up several resources to support researchers and as they navigagte UW's new Diversity in Clinical Trials policy. CNA is a configurational comparative method, which includes case-based approaches that identify combinations of conditions that are necessary and/or sufficient for the presence or absence of a certain outcome. Learn how CNA can be used to understand how different patient characteristics are related to clinical symptoms or how different contextual factors contribute to the implementation of evidence-based practices.

Judith Tsui, MD, MPH, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington in the Division of General Internal Medicine based at Harborview Medical Center and Adjunct Professor in the UW Department of Health Science and Population Health (SPop). Access to and Uptake of Prevention Tools and Treatments in a Multi-Site US Cohort of People with HIV in Care Webinar
Speaker: Rob Fredericksen, PhD MPH
Bio: Rob Fredericksen, PhD MPH is an anthropologist and mixed-methods researcher in the UW Department of Medicine/Division of Allergy & Infectious Diseases, with 20+ years in the field of HIV care. He is currently an MPI on a NIDA-funded R01 addressing issues of health equity across demographic groups of persons with HIV in care with a focus on substance use, its treatment, and related HIV outcomes. He leads the development and integration of patient reported outcome measures into clinical HIV care for the Centers for AIDS Research Network of Integrated Clinical Systems (CNICS).
