Or scrolling on social media far longer than you wanted or planned to? Or feeling frustrated with an app that tries to pressure you into giving up your time, data, or money? These frustrating user experiences are no accident; they are the product of attention-economy designs that enable platforms to profit at their users’ expense. As a result of these common design tactics, there is increasing scrutiny on the impact of interactive technologies on users of all ages—and on children and teens in particular. AccessCSforAll staff invites you to participate in a three-week virtual book club exploring El Deafo, a graphic novel written and illustrated by Cece Bell. The book offers a humorous and heartfelt look at growing up deaf, identity, and fitting in. It’s also available as an accessible audiobook with a full cast and sound effects, making it inclusive for all participants.
Format:
We’ll meet weekly over Zoom to discuss selected sections of the book. Each session will include group discussion and reflection questions. While we encourage you to attend all sessions, we understand life gets busy—joining at least one is appreciated!
Who Can Join:
Everyone is welcome! Due to grant restrictions, we can only provide funding (book vouchers) to individuals who live, work, or study in the United States. However, anyone—regardless of location—is welcome to participate in the Zoom discussions.

Are you curious about disability history? Wonder why people feel disability pride?
This series of events honors Devva Kasnitz's dream to expand disability studies from the ivory tower of academia to the homes of everyday people.
For people of all ages, each evening includes several parts: learning about disabilities studies and the history of disability, with time for questions, networking, and fun.

As of May 1, 2025, DSHS is forming two new public-facing administrations: Behavioral Health and Habilitation Administration, and Home and Community Living Administration. The restructuring aims to consolidate expertise, simplify processes, improve service clarity, and make operations more efficient.
Behavioral Health and Habilitation Administration: Now responsible for overseeing state-operated settings and comprehensive behavioral health services that serve DSHS clients who receive care in our state operated 24/7 facilities.
Home and Community Living Administration: Will coordinate home and community-based services that support clients in their own environments. Fighting for Civil and Disability Rights: Strategies to Overcome Barriers
Free webinar series from the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center: The Human Experience of Black People with Disabilities and Their Rights Under the ADA.
We unpack this research study and provide a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities, as well as the challenges and barriers, faced by Black individuals with disabilities in accessing information and exercising their rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). By presenting the findings of this study, we will highlight the discrimination and marginalization these individuals experience, while also exploring avenues for advocacy, collective action, and support.
