OHS Seminar Series- "Bioengineering Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) in vitro models for cell-matrix and mechanobiology investigations" -Priti Mulimani, BDS, MDS, PhD

Presenter: Priti Mulimani, BDS, MDS, PhD Postdoctoral Research Associate University of Chicago College of Dentistry Title: Bioengineering Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) in vitro models for cell-matrix and mechanobiology investigations, Abstract: Mechanical loads regulate the homeostatic and allostatic signaling controlling temporomandibular joint (TMJ) heath and disease. Allostatic signaling is promoted through mechanical overloading, initiating both the remodeling and degeneration of the extracellular matrix (ECM) during arthropathies such as osteoarthritis (OA). Changes in the composition and organization of the ECM have a multifaceted role on cellular mechanotransduction, impacting the mechanical microenvironment surrounding the cell, the cytoskeletal architecture, and the transcription of key differentiation markers. There is an important gap in knowledge related to understanding how these cell-matrix derived signals control cell behaviours deterministic of TMJ pathobiology such as migration,… Event interval: Single day event.
