It’s a pleasure to welcome Dr. Amy J. Ko as our special guest this month! Amy brings both a disability justice lens and a focus on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to inform an accessible teaching practice. Meetings are hosted by Mary-Colleen Jenkins, an instruction accessibility specialist with Accessible Technology Services (ATS). Mary-Colleen is a former UW instructor herself, so this is a great opportunity to discuss logistics and how to set priorities for improving course accessibility without feeling overwhelmed.

Since the release of ChatGPT in late 2022, much of the conversation about generative AI in higher education has concerned academic integrity. However, another impact of this technology on teaching and learning deserves further and deeper consideration as well: what it means for human presence in our courses. Generative AI challenges human presence in online learning, raising concerns about instructor presence and student engagement. This session explores strategies to sustain these elements, despite or with AI.
