Webinar: Preparing for Faculty Hiring in our Current Climate

Other Events UW ADVANCE and the Office for Faculty Advancement are partnering to offer a Spring webinar on “Preparing for Faculty Hiring in our Current Climate.” This live-streamed, Webinar-style workshop will be offered twice but will not be recorded. Please feel free to attend one or the other. Each workshop will cover: Brief review of current policy, legal, and political climate for faculty hiring; , Planning ahead for forming search committees, faculty search guidelines and charge, writing job ads, drafting assessment rubrics, and devising an active outreach plan; , Focused discussion about situations where committee members have prior professional and personal relationships with applicants and how to address potential conflicts of interest, bias, and perceptions of bias. This workshop is appropriate for faculty and staff who will participate in faculty hiring in the next academic year, 2024-25. Event interval: Single day event. "Applying for an NSF CAREER Grant Award"

Pre-Tenure Faculty Workshop UW ADVANCE will be offering our Spring Pre-Tenure Faculty Workshop on “Applying for NSF CAREER Awards” in person. This workshop will feature recent CAREER awardees and panel reviewers: Dianne Xiao (Chemistry), Bhuvana Srinivasan (Aeronautics & Astronautics), and Sajjad Moazeni (Electrical & Computer Engineering). Come hear tips on crafting your grant proposal, strategies for revising and resubmitting a prior CAREER proposal, ideas for linking research and education goals, and leads for partnering with existing organizations on campus for the educational plan component of the proposal. ADVANCE Leadership Workshop in Conjunction with OLP: "Responding to Discrimination: Views from on the Ground"

Quarterly Leadership Workshop "Responding to Discrimination: Views from on the Ground" Due to popular demand, this workshop will be a continuation of our Fall workshop, “Responding to Discrimination.” As a campus leader, you play a key role in responding to discrimination. This workshop will feature panelists with unit and faculty-level experience. The panel will discuss how they work through discrimination-related conflicts in their units, de-escalate discrimination related grievances and conflicts, and  implement strategies that support people in moving forward. Workshop participants will explore sample scenarios in which discrimination may have occurred and hear how the panelists would address situations from the scenarios.
