On Wednesday, April 29, the Inclusive Excellence pillar in the Office for Academic Personnel and Faculty is offering two events on preparing for faculty hiring. These events will contain the same content but be offered in two formats: an in-person workshop (9 - 10:30 am on April 29) and an online webinar (3 - 4:30 pm on April 29). Please feel free to attend one or the other. The events will not be recorded.
The sessions will reflect new administrative guidance on faculty hiring. Specifically, the sessions will offer (1) a brief review of the current policy, legal, and political environment for faculty hiring; (2) prompts for planning ahead for forming search committees, writing job ads, drafting assessment rubrics, devising outreach plans, and anticipating potential conflicts of interest and perceptions of bias; and (3) what to do if you need to pause a search.

Quarterly Leadership Workshop
In conjunction with the Opportunities in Leadership Program (OLP), UW ADVANCE offers cross-college quarterly leadership workshops that address leadership and faculty professional development issues and are intended to facilitate cross-college networks and interdisciplinary information exchange.
For the spring ADVANCE/OLP Leadership Workshop, Brian Soucek, Professor of Law at the University of California Davis and author of the new book The Opinionated University: Academic freedom, diversity, and the myth of neutrality in American higher education, will be in conversation with UW Vice President and University Diversity Officer Rickey Hall for a robust discussion of how we might “do” DEI and academic freedom in the current climate.
