HCDE Electives Social

Are you a current junior who is trying to decide which 400-level HCDE electives to take next year? Alternatively, are you a current senior who has already taken some of those HCDE electives and who is willing to share what you’ve learned? Join the HCDE BS peer advisers for the HCDE Electives Social, a casual space to learn more about upcoming courses, hear from students who’ve taken them, and get your questions answered. This is your chance to learn more about our HCDE 400-level elective offerings before Autumn registration and swap notes with fellow students in a laid-back setting. Whether you're curious about new subjects or seeking advice on your elective choices, this event is for you. HCDE Distinguished Lecture with Laura Forlano - "Designing Consequences: On Living Well with Machines"

The Judith Ramey and Stephanie Rosenbaum Distinguished Lecture Series at the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering brings leading experts in the fields of human-centered design to the University of Washington to spark new ideas and innovative conversations.  Join us as we welcome Laura Forlano, a Fulbright award-winning and National Science Foundation funded social scientist and design researcher. Designing Consequences: On Living Well with Machines Who will live with the social consequences of your designs? And, who will live with the consequences of the consequences? In this talk, I will consider how we might live well with machines drawing on my own “disabled cyborg” life as well as nearly two decades of research in the field of design and related fields including critical disability studies, critical computing, critical creative practice, and critical pedagogy.
