Admitted Students Day in Special Collections

Visit Special Collections, UW Libraries home for rare and unique materials, open on Saturday, 4/20 to celebrate admitted students. Between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, visitors will get a chance to see the Special Collections reading room exhibit and a few gems from the collection on display.  See our website for more information about Special Collections. Food and drink is not permitted inside the reading room and lockers will be available to store your bags, coats, and other personal belongings. Event interval: Single day event. "We Are Not Strangers" Author Talk with Josh Tuininga

Join Special Collections and author of the new graphic novel, We Are Not Strangers, Josh Tuininga for a book talk. Tuininga will be discussing the basis of his novel, or the relationships between Jewish Americans and their Japanese American neighbors during World War II. Tuininga did extensive research during the writing of the novel, so be sure to come with questions!  Refreshments will be available outside of the auditorium before and after the event. HYBRID: Comics and Graphic Novels in the University: Librarians Anne Davis and Allee Monheim discuss collecting, care, and advocacy

Join librarians Anne Davis and Allee Monheim to discuss the collecting, care, and advocacy for graphic novels, zines, and other forms of grey print in University Library collections. Anne and Allee curated portions of the Special Collections Spring/Summer 2024 Reading Room Exhibit, The Medium is the Message: Lived Experience is the Story. Through a discussion panel, they will unpack how they became interested in collecting and selecting graphic novels and why they think this medium is important for a university library to have accessible to faculty and students.  This is a hybrid event and will be hosted on Zoom and in Suzzallo 5th East Conference Room. Special Collections is excited to welcome artist Tamar Stone for a hybrid lecture to discuss her work on body image, women's shapes, narrative storytelling, and artistic medium.
