Building Leaders for a Better Future   What we are planning: SAIL is proud to announce that it will be hosting two important presentations to educate individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as community members. We aim to inform the next generation of self-advocate leaders by exploring the past, recognizing our present, and helping to shape our future.   Session 1: The Disability History Movement      Take a trip back in time to explore how people with disabilities fought for their civil rights.   August 26th 4 PM – 5:30 PM,     Session 2: Social Change for a Better Future, Looking forward to the future by exploring where we need to go and ways to get there. Devva’s Room series: Accessibility from academia to everyone's home

Are you curious about disability history? Wonder why people feel disability pride? This series of events honors Devva Kasnitz's dream to expand disability studies from the ivory tower of academia to the homes of everyday people. On September 10, Anthony Tusler presents Disability In Music. For people of all ages, each evening includes several parts: learning about disabilities studies and the history of disability, with time for questions, networking, and fun. IHDD Lunch and Learn – Building Accessibility into Our Research Date: Thursday, October 9 Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM Location: South Campus Center 316, University of Washington The event will feature presentations, a panel discussion, and opportunities for networking over coffee and lunch. Final schedule and speaker details to come. People with disabilities are often excluded from research either through specific exclusion criteria or through unintentionally inaccessible procedures. When people with disabilities cannot participate in a research study, it may affect the study’s generalizability. Building accessibility into research procedures requires attention to access in the early planning stages. In this Lunch and Learn session, we will provide an overview of accessibility in research and discuss an accessibility research toolkit designed to support researchers in using accessible research procedures.
