OpenThePaths 2024 Mini-Conference- "The Rides Not Taken."

Free. An Open Data and Transportation Equity Conference The University of Washington’s Transportation Data Equity Initiative (TDEI) will host the 5th annual Open The Paths conference from April 25-26, 2024. This is a two-day mini-conference focusing on multimodal, accessibility-first open transportation data and mapping. This year we will focus on ‘The Rides Not Taken’ and the disparate traveler experiences that challenge public transit incentives. The conference highlights continued work of the TDEI, partners and developers working on transportation data collection and data standardization, with a particular focus on information relating to sidewalks, transit centers and paratransit services. Climate Justice Conversations and Connections

Reclaim Earth Day Teach-In

Reclaim Earth Day will be a teach-in on environmental justice (EJ), including its importance, the history of EJ locally, past and current movements, and the solutions we can implement. Arbor Day Tree Tour

Join us to celebrate a holiday set aside especially for the planting, upkeep, and preservation of trees. This special tour will highlight some of the most popular trees in the city, as well as some excellent specimens not usually seen around town, and will give participants a chance to learn more about how to plant and care for city trees, and what they give back to us. Transforming Climate Anxiety to Clarity to Action: How to Be Stewards of Your Environment

In response to our planet’s changing climate, some may experience climate anxiety, which is distress relating to climate change and its impacts. There are various ways to cope with this anxiety, which are important to be aware of when navigating our changing climate. This Spring, Livewell, in collaboration with several registered student organizations, will be hosting an event-oriented around mitigating climate anxiety and making positive environmental change. The event will consist of a workshop on managing climate anxiety and ways to make change, presentations from on-campus environmental student groups, and an RSO-fair style tabling activity. In connecting students with resources and student organizations working to address a variety of environmental-related issues, this event aims to empower students with the information they need to transform their climate anxiety into clarity and to use that momentum to make positive change. Northwest Nature and Health Symposium

Nature and Health illuminates the connections between nature and human health and well-being. We work with the community and decision makers to translate our findings into programs and policies that promote equitable engagement with nature. Book Talk | The Conservative Environmentalist

The UW Foster School of Business and the UW College of the Environment are delighted to host an engaging conversation between Sally Jewell, former U.S. Secretary of the Interior, and Benji Backer, author of "The Conservative Environmentalist" and distinguished UW alumnus. In his book, Backer argues that conservative principles can drive effective climate solutions. Traveling from Utah coal mines to Rhode Island wind farms, Backer's book discusses how entrepreneurship and local initiatives can preserve and enhance our ecosystems. UW Farm work party

Before volunteering with the UW Farm, please complete the online sign up forms. This session is at the UW Farm's Center for Urban Horticulture location.  The UW Farm's spring volunteer work parties will help with seed starting, mulch spreading, finishing the aquatic growing space and general farm tasks. Join Bird Friendly UW on a campus tour to learn how we're creating a bird-friendly campus. The 90-minute tour features design "hot spots" where our data shows the most bird-building collisions, a few bird-safe options already in use, and places where you can enjoy campus birding.
