Place, Culture, Family: Twulshootseed Ways of Knowing Tacoma
The UW Center for American Indian and Indigenous Studies and the UWT Master in Community Planning Program would like to welcome you to a talk with Chris Briden on Puyallup geographies in Tacoma. This event is free and open to all! Chris Briden’s research investigates the connections between places, cultures and family, using a framework and methodology informed by Native Puget Sound Ways of knowing. Come to learn about the ways that the traditional concept of the x̌əč describes the way that intentions, feelings, and beliefs can flow between humans and the places they inhabit, and hear about how relationships between people and their places can be examined using principles laid out in traditional Twulshootseed narratives. Chris Briden is a Puyallup Tribal member and doctoral student in the UWT Educational Leadership Muckleshoot Cohort, who is researching the connections between Place, Culture, and Family.
