Movie: The Great Dictator
Movie Trailer: The Great Dictator (1940) Trailer
Program Description:
Experience one of the most influential films in cinema history through Screen & Scholar, a program that pairs expert insight with landmark films. Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator (1940) is one of the first major Hollywood films to openly satirize Adolf Hitler and European fascism. Its final speech, an impassioned plea for democracy and human dignity, remains one of the most powerful moments in film history.
The evening begins with a presentation by Professor Brandon Bauer, Associate Professor of Art at St. Norbert College. Bauer will explore the film’s historical context, Chaplin’s political risk in making it, and its lasting influence on political satire and democratic culture. His talk provides audiences with deeper insigh…

Whatcha Watching?
THEY'RE BAAAACK!!! It's been a year MPL's Matt Mottl, Lisa Devins-Horohoe, and Tim Gadzinski got together online to discuss what's going on in the cinematic world during an episode of "Whatcha Watching." And what could be better than chatting about the recently aired Academy Awards—who and what took home an Oscar, who didn't, what should've won (in their humble opinions), and who got snubbed altogether! It'll be a post-mortem definitely worth watching! We hope that you'll be able to join them online on Thursday, March 19, from 6-7:30 PM. And as always, we encourage all those watching to join the discussion via the "Comments" box on their platform of choice. “Whatcha Watchin’” will livestream on both MPL’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/manitowoclibrary) and YouTube channel. Let's talk movies!
Thursday, March 19, 2026, 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM.

This Historic Radio Showcase will be on display on MPL's First Floor from Monday, April 20, through Saturday, May 30, near the Main Service Desk. More pieces of interesting, obscure WOMT ephemera are certain to be added as the exhibition nea…
