Cost for participants:
Members: $25
General Public: $30
Location: Explore Classroom
Instructor: Michelle Sharp
Workshop Description:
Poetry doesn’t have to start with a blank page; sometimes it starts with a full page from a book! Found poetry, also known as blackout poetry, is the process of creating poems by marking out words from recycled book pages. Participants can look for creative meaning in this subtractive process, editing down a passage into something new. Many of the resulting poems are also visual art pieces in themselves, using the redacted words as shape and form. Join us for this unique intersection of creative writing and visual process art!

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that
signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box. Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book,
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless humor and vibrant score.
