Our goal is to have all the participating kayaks/canoes/paddleboards launched by 8:15 so we can then paddle in close proximity of each other to enjoy the experience! You’ll need to work out your own vehicle transportation between the two locations. PFDs are required. Please also have some type of light on your body or kayak/canoe so you are visible as the sun sets. Many participants enjoy decorating themselves or their boats with fun lights! This urban portion of the Manitowoc River Watershed Water Trail is especially beautiful at sunset. Launching at the park where nature is abundant, entering into the historic shipbuilding section, paddling under multiple bridges, past the WWII submarine USS Cobia, and finishing where the mouth of the Manitowoc River enters Maritime Bay is an experience not to be missed. We have a rain date set for Saturday, August 29th in case of bad weather on Friday.

On Thursday, September 10, Doug Zoerb—the Manitowoc County coordinator for the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program—will be presenting a tax tips for seniors program in Manitowoc Public Library's Balkansky Community Room from 10-11:30 AM. During last tax season, Doug and his team (a small group of volunteers that prepare tax returns free of charge at both the Manitowoc and Two Rivers Senior Centers) consistently noticed several common—and avoidable—mistakes that cost seniors on their taxes. Additionally, there are several new deductions that will directly help seniors next year, but they need to act now. Doug's presentation will focus on this pertinent information, followed by a brief Q&A session. Ale on the Trail is back, FALL EDITION, at the Brown County Reforestation Camp on Friday, October 2nd from 4pm - 8pm. Put on your hiking boots or grab your mountain bike and come out and enjoy a 2.5 mile course paired with beer (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) samplings along the way for adults. Bring the whole family with kid friendly samples along the way and activities along the route. Participants receive a souvenir 5oz mug for sampling and lanyard to make for easy movement on the trail. Patrick Dewane’s grandfather, Lt. Col. Matt Konop, led the unit that liberated Southwestern Czechoslovakia in 1945—unaware that he was stepping into the very region his ancestors had emigrated from.
