Screen & Scholar: In a Lonely Place

Community Events Cost: $10 for Members and non-Members Film: In a Lonely Place 1h 34m Regarded as one of the greatest film noirs, In a Lonely Place is an incredible reimagining of Dorothy B. Hughes’s novel of the same title. Directed by Wisconsin’s own Nicholas Ray, In a Lonely Place is as close as any studio movie ever got to the “personal filmmaking” we often associate with independent films. It presents viewers with tension, heartache, and an exploration of the sometimes-profound darkness of the soul. Film and media scholar, Dr. Zack Kruse will introduce and host a Q & A about the film, providing context and insight into the film, the noir mood, and what such films mean for us today. Famed French New Wave director noted that “the cinema is Nicholas Ray.” This special screening and conversation will consider that notion as we experience one of the most outstanding cinematic achievements from, perhaps, Wisconsin’s greatest cinematic son. Presenter: Professor | Dr. Zack Kruse, Professor at University of Wisconsin – Green… Thursday, June 12, 2025, 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM. Mulva Cultural Center 221 south broadway street.
