SOLID’s 29th Annual “All You Can Eat” Pasta Dinner

Join Supporters of Law Enforcement in Devonshire (SOLID) for its 29th Annual “All You Can Eat” Pasta Dinner. Shine LA

Created by Mayor Bass, Shine LA is a movement that strengthens communities by bringing Angelenos together from across the city to beautify LA neighborhoods. With major global events just around the corner – the 2026 FIFA World Cup, 2027 Superbowl and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games – Shine LA inspires Angelenos to take pride in preparing their communities to step onto the world stage.  Since launching in April, Shine LA has brought together more than 2,000 Angelenos for a day of service in more than 30 neighborhoods across Los Angeles. Dog Swim at Northridge Pool

Bring your well-behaved pup to Northridge Pool for an end-of-summer celebration featuring “Lappy Hour,” vendor booths, and dogs-only swim sessions. National VFW Day

National Holidays National VFW Day is celebrated annually on September 29. This day is devoted to the VFW organization and it’s members who have served our nation. The VFW was established on September 29, 1899 by a group of veterans from the Spanish-American war. It has since grown to be the nation’s largest group of combat veterans. They continue “to honor the dead by helping the living.” The VFW promote patriotism, good will and youth scholarships. They also provide military assistance and community service programs, promote youth activities and volunteer many hours in their local communities. How do you celebrate today? Honor the VFW members and veterans in your community. Let them know that you appreciate the sacrifices they have made for all of us. We truly are the land of the free because of the brave. The Great Shakeout

Every year, millions of people recognize the third Thursday of October as International Shakeout Day, a time specifically geared toward earthquake preparedness. Activities normally include conducting drills and exercises, and at a minimum, practicing the earthquake safety steps ‘Drop, Cover, and Hold On’ as if experiencing a major earthquake. What is the ShakeOut drill? The Great ShakeOut earthquake drills are based on scenario earthquakes that could affect the area if they were to actually take place. Shine LA

Created by Mayor Bass, Shine LA is a movement that strengthens communities by bringing Angelenos together from across the city to beautify LA neighborhoods. With major global events just around the corner – the 2026 FIFA World Cup, 2027 Superbowl and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games – Shine LA inspires Angelenos to take pride in preparing their communities to step onto the world stage.  Since launching in April, Shine LA has brought together more than 2,000 Angelenos for a day of service in more than 30 neighborhoods across Los Angeles. Volunteers have participated in activities such as tree planting, utility box painting, loose litter pick-up to educational programming on composting.  Shine LA is every fourth Saturday of the month in neighborhoods across Los Angeles.  Volunteer now to Make LA Shine! CSUN Powwow

The Annual CSUN Powwow will take place The Saturday after Thanksgiving to celebrate American Indian communities of Los Angeles and throughout Southern California. The powwow is scheduled to take place from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Sierra Quad, located in the center of campus at 18111 Nordhoff Street in Northridge.  “More than 250,000 American Indians live in Los Angeles County,” said Scott Andrews, who is a professor in the CSUN American Indian Studies Program and the Department of English. “That population is spread across a large geographic area, and powwows are one way members of that community stay in touch with each other. “Powwow music and dance styles reflect mostly the cultural traditions of Southern and Northern Plains tribes, but they have evolved to include Native traditions from their local areas,” Andrews said.  “For instance, members of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians will open our event with songs in their distinct Southern California style and language.”  The CSUN camp… Saturday, November 28, 2026, 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM. Board of Neighborhood Commissioners Meeting

The Board of Neighborhood Commissioners (The Commission) was established by the City Charter in 1999 as a policy-setting and oversight commission for the Neighborhood Councils and the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment. The Commission is comprised of 7 Commissioners appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council to 5 year terms. The Commissioners are all from diverse backgrounds and geographic areas of the City of Los Angeles. The Commission holds regular public meetings the 1st Tuesday and 3rd Monday of each month and may also hold special meetings to conduct business. The Commission ensures that the City Charter and the Neighborhood Council Plan are realized by setting policies with the aim of making Neighborhood Councils diverse, inclusive, and representative of all community stakeholders.
