Kick It In The Park: Northridge Park Soccer Viewing Party

Kick It In The Park is a free community viewing party at Northridge Park (10058 Reseda Blvd.) to cheer on the biggest soccer tournament together on a giant LED screen. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic. Shine LA

Created by Mayor Bass, Shine LA is a movement that strengthens communities by bringing Angelenos together from across the city to beautify LA neighborhoods. With major global events just around the corner – the 2026 FIFA World Cup, 2027 Superbowl and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games – Shine LA inspires Angelenos to take pride in preparing their communities to step onto the world stage.  Since launching in April, Shine LA has brought together more than 2,000 Angelenos for a day of service in more than 30 neighborhoods across Los Angeles. Volunteers have participated in activities such as tree planting, utility box painting, loose litter pick-up to educational programming on composting.  Shine LA is every fourth Saturday of the month in neighborhoods across Los Angeles.  Volunteer now to Make LA Shine! National Holidays In memory of the nearly 3,000 people who were killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, each year in the United States we observe Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance. On October 25, 2001, the U.S. House of Representatives Joint Resolution 71 was approved. Resolution 71 requested that the President designate September 11 of each year as “Patriot Day”. President George W. Bush signed the resolution into law on December 18, 2001 (as Public Law 107-89). On this day, it is asked by the President, that the American flag be flown at half-staff at individual American homes, at the White House and on all United States government buildings and establishments at home and abroad. POW/MIA Recognition Day

National Holidays The day we honor former prisoners of wars and the memories of the tens of thousands of service members from all wars still listed as missing in action. So, for our POWs and MIAs - for the ultimate sacrifice so many of them made in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam in the name of freedom - take a few minutes Friday to remember them. Created by Mayor Bass, Shine LA is a movement that strengthens communities by bringing Angelenos together from across the city to beautify LA neighborhoods. With major global events just around the corner – the 2026 FIFA World Cup, 2027 Superbowl and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games – Shine LA inspires Angelenos to take pride in preparing their communities to step onto the world stage.  Since launching in April, Shine LA has brought together more than 2,000 Angelenos for a day of service in more than 30 neighborhoods across Los Angeles. Volunteers have participated in activities such as tree planting, utility box painting, loose litter pick-up to educational programming on composting.  Shine LA is every fourth Saturday of the month in neighborhoods across Los Angeles.  Volunteer now to Make LA Shine! National VFW Day

National Holidays National VFW Day is celebrated annually on September 29. This day is devoted to the VFW organization and it’s members who have served our nation. The VFW was established on September 29, 1899 by a group of veterans from the Spanish-American war. It has since grown to be the nation’s largest group of combat veterans. They continue “to honor the dead by helping the living.” The VFW promote patriotism, good will and youth scholarships. They also provide military assistance and community service programs, promote youth activities and volunteer many hours in their local communities. How do you celebrate today? Honor the VFW members and veterans in your community. Let them know that you appreciate the sacrifices they have made for all of us. We truly are the land of the free because of the brave.
