General Nursing Orientation (GNO)

An introduction to Nursing Excellence at UCSDH for all newly hired nurses. During GNO, new nursing staff receive onboarding resources to orient them to Nursing Excellence at UC San Diego Health.  We discuss the value of our nursing mission, vision, and motto and provide information on how these values are supported and advanced. We highlight team member perks, benefits, and recognition, as well as professional development programs available to our nurses. GNO is designed for newly hired inpatient and ambulatory nursing staff. If the job requires RN licensure, then attendance at GNO is mandatory. Clinical Nurses I–IV , Nursing Administration/Management , Case Management Nurses , LVNs , AYA Travelers,   Float Travel RNs, Nurse Practitioners, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Certified Nurse Midwives, and Student Health nurses are exempt. Thriving Through Chemo: The Essential Side Effect Guide

The purpose of this course is to enhance knowledge and confidence in regard to chemotherapy side effects and treatment of those symptoms. Participants will engage with an unfolding case study, exploring chemotherapy side effects and the regimens that cause them. Appropriate assessments of side effect severity along with pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic measures, add-on's to standard treatment regimens, patient specific considerations, and healthcare disparities in the treatment of side effects will be addressed. TIC (Trauma-Informed Care) - Independent Study

Those that work in healthcare often think they are tough and can handle everything, but it's important to remember there are challenging part to the job that may start to carry over into their personal lives, knowingly or unknowingly. This can result in not wanting to care for patients and further be defined as compassion fatigue, burnout, or even depression which is common among all healthcare providers, especially after the past couple years during the pandemic. An introduction to Nursing Excellence at UCSDH for all newly hired nurses. During GNO, new nursing staff receive onboarding resources to orient them to Nursing Excellence at UC San Diego Health.  We discuss the value of our nursing mission, vision, and motto and provide information on how these values are supported and advanced.
