Precepting with Pride

Precepting with Pride is the foundational training that is required to be a preceptor at UCSD Health. The 4-hour course covers the UCSD preceptor program philosophy and preceptor roles and expectations. Concepts of adult learning are discussed along with individual preferred learning styles. Various teaching strategies with learning validation and teach-back are explored. Purposeful questioning is introduced and incorporated through role-playing to foster critical thinking in a preceptorship. Delivering actionable feedback is covered with scenario-based training integrated. Methods to evaluate oreintees are reviewed and tools for effective communication are provided. ICU/Cardiac Boot Camp: Introduction to Hemodynamics

Introduction to Hemodynamics for Cardiac Boot Camp and ICU Boot Camp includes an introduction to basic hemodynamics with a focus on anatomy and physiology, the components of cardiac output, and pressure waveform management and interpretation. Additional education content will include information on pacemakers and vasoactive medications. There is 4-hours worth of required pre-work, including videos and reading materials for this class. Cardiac Boot Camp: VAD Day

VAD & Cardiac Surgery Day for Cardiac Boot Camp provides a comprehensive review of Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs) including the purpose and indication for each VAD, nursing care for a patient with a VAD, VAD troubleshooting techniques, and emergency management. Additional topics include post open heart surgery care, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair with lumbar drains, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Required hands-on training and demonstration for both HeartMate and HeartWare durable VADs competency will be completed on the last Cardiac Boot Camp day.
