TIC (Trauma-Informed Care) - Independent Study

Those that work in healthcare often think they are tough and can handle everything, but it's important to remember there are challenging part to the job that may start to carry over into thier personal lives, knowingly or unknowingly. This can result in not wanting to care for patients and further be defined as compassion fatigue, burnout, or even depression which is common among all healthcare providers, especially after the past couple years during the pandemic. Patients and team members all come in with a unique pasts often consisting of adverse childhood events (ACEs) that play a role into how people, interactions, and events are processed.  A new care delivery, trauma informed care, provides a more positive interaction for both patients and staff and is shown to reduce compassion fatigue and create resiliency. This is an education module that goes over information on trauma informed care and how to apply  trauma informed care for our patients and staff. UC San Diego School of Medicine - Continuing Professional Development: Precision Cardiovascular Care 2024: Transitioning Care from Phenotypes to Genotypes

Cardiovascular medicine is approaching a pivotal turning point, in which therapies introduced are shifting from those based on phenotype to those that treat the root underlying mechanism (endotype) and, more recently, the genetic cause (genotype). Such changes promise more effective therapies that promise to cure diseases instead of simply slowing down their progress. For this promise to be fulfilled, it will require more than developing new therapeutics -fundamental changes will need to occur in clinical practice, including how we identify at-risk patients, predict their disease trajectory, and monitor the benefit and side effects of new therapeutics.
