Subscribe from iCal

What you can learn in this topic:

To see examples of how to subscribe to a Trumba® calendar, go to Subscribe from iCal: Examples.

To read an overview of how subscribing works, go to Overview: iCal subscribe and publish.

In this topic, we talk about mixing in calendars. If you don't know what this means, you might want to read this first:View multiple calendars.

Subscribe to a non-published calendar

You can subscribe to any non-published calendar that you can edit. A non-published calendar that you can edit is either a calendar that you created or that someone shared with you and gave you permission to add, change, or delete events.

When you subscribe to a non-published calendar, the only events that you'll see in iCal are events that actually belong to that calendar. If events from other calendars are mixed in, the mixed-in events won't appear in iCal.

To subscribe to a non-published calendar

  1. In Trumba Connect, find the Web name for the calendar to which you want to subscribe.

If you aren't sure how to find the Web name, see Find a calendar's web name.

  2. In iCal, on the Calendar menu, click Subscribe.
  3. For Subscribe to, type this URL: http://www.trumba.com/service/webname.ics, where webname is the Web name of the Trumba calendar.
  4. Type your Trumba Connect sign in email address and password.
  5. For Title, type a name for the new or existing iCal calendar, and then click Subscribe.

Tip You can also subscribe to a non-published calendar by clicking the iCal button that appears at the top right corner of the calendar window in Trumba Connect. When you click the button, iCal opens. Confirm the URL and then click Subscribe. Type your Trumba Connect sign in email address and password, type a name for the calendar, and then click OK.

Subscribe to a published calendar

You can subscribe to any calendar that you or anyone else published, as long as the calendar is not password protected.

To subscribe to a published calendar

  1. In Trumba Connect, find the Web name for the published calendar.

If you aren't sure how to find the Web name, see Find a calendar's web name.

  2. In iCal, on the Calendar menu, click Subscribe.
  3. If you're:
    • Subscribing to a published calendar and want to include all the events that you see, including events mixed in from other calendars, for Subscribe to, type this URL: http://www.trumba.com/calendars/webname.ics, where webname is the Web name of the Trumba calendar.
    • Subscribing to a published calendar and want to include only events on the published calendar itself (not events mixed in from other calendars), for Subscribe to, type this URL: http://www.trumba.com/service/webname.ics, where webname is the Web name of the Trumba calendar.
  4. For Title, type a name for the new or existing iCal calendar, and then click Subscribe.

Tips

  • If you're prompted to sign in during the subscription process, the published calendar is password protected and you won't be able to subscribe to it.
  • You can also subscribe to a published calendar by clicking the iCal button at that calendar's top right corner. When you click the button, iCal opens. Confirm the URL (or replace calendars in the URL with service to subscribe only to events on the published calendar itself and not to events from calendars that are mixed in), and then click Subscribe. Type a name for the calendar, and then click OK.

What to expect in iCal after you subscribe

In iCal, after you subscribe to a Trumba calendar:

  • You can't make any changes to events on the subscribed calendar. Changes you make in Trumba Connect are passed to the iCal calendar.
  • If you subscribe to a published Trumba calendar that the owner subsequently unpublishes, you'll get an error in iCal when you try to refresh.
